"This is a quarry, not a swimming pool!"
Nicole complains loudly, crossing her arms. I look over at the quarry as I help Joaquin unload the van. It's a fairly deep quarry, not enough to kill you. There's a stairwell built into the side so that you can get back up, and trees line the sides. I think it's lovely.
"Suck it up!" Joaquin says loudly, dropping a folding chair. Nicole kicks him, and he winces, grabbing his ankle.
I laugh, carrying a large bag of snacks over to a picnic table. Summer runs up beside me and tugs on the hem of my t-shirt.
"Hey, this is Rio's favorite!" She smiles.
"It is?" I inquire, pulling on it's hem. "I wonder why he gave it to me to wear, then."
"I think he likes you." She giggles, whispering.
My eyes widen and I drop an apple or two, reaching down to pick them up again. "Summer, you know good and well that River and and I are seeing other people."
She groans in annoyance, as if I had just said the stupidest thing. "But- you guys just seem... you always make eye contact and smile, and then you turn red-"
"Summer, that's enough." I state firmly, turning red. "Let's go jump in with the others."
She sighs and walks off, as I examine the t-shirt. If it was his favorite, then there was no reason for me to ruin it by jumping into dirty water with it. I pulled it over my head, the sun hitting my shoulders.
Then, I folded up the shirt and put it on the picnic table.
I almost immediately felt embarrassed, then I realized that I still had Nike's. I sighed, looking down at my bathing-suit covered chest. This would have to do.
"Hey, you lost the shirt!" Wil smiles, running up to me and slinging an arm around my waist.
"Yeah. I didn't want to ruin it."
"You look amazing." He smiles. I laugh, pressing closer into his side as we walk towards the group of kids.
"Who's going first?" Liberty asks. Silence fills the air
Wil gasps. "I forgot to put on sunscreen. I'll be right back."
I laugh at him as he bolts back to the van we took, opening the trunk. Suddenly, an idea comes to my mind, I run back, carefully examining the group of siblings and Nicole.
River stands to the side, arms crossed, smiling.
oh, GOD, he's shirtless.
I just barely glanced at his lean stomach, the faint shadows showing that his abdomen was toned. There was no nasty chest hair—but, I mean, Wil was nice too.
His blue eyes travel around, making eye contact with me. I smirk at him, and it's almost as if we share an idea.
I run forward, grabbing his hand. The two of us plummet into the quarry, him laughing as we hit the water. I come up, laughing as well.
"You're all pussies!" He shouts up, earning a 'Hey!' from Joaquin.
Soon everyone has splashed into the place, including Wil and Nicole. We all swim around for a while, and I teach Summer how to float on her back in a shallow end.
"Like this?" She asks, spitting out some water that had lapped onto her face.
"Yeah. I'll join you."
I spread my arms and legs back and fall into a float, the water gently pulling back and forth on my face. The sun warms me, and I feel very peaceful. Just floating there.
