1990
Eddie had brought his girlfriend, Beth, over to dinner, unbeknownst to Amy.
Pearl Jam plus Chris and Matt were all at the house for dinner. It was just a small kickback.
The dining room was dimly lit, and a chorus of voices was heard in Amy's bedroom.
She was laying down on her bed, headphones in her ears, blasting The Doors.
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyreCome on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fireAmy stood up and walked over to her closet and got out some clothes. She quickly changed into a Ramones shirt and was out the door.
"The time to hesitate is through..." She sang to herself as she opened the fridge.
Giggles from behind her startled her.She quickly turned around to see Eddie and Beth were on the couch, making out.
Once the pair noticed her presence, Eddie immediately flushed.
"Amy." He quickly spoke.
"Oh, is this the girly you were talking 'bout?" Beth asked him.
"She sure is, uh, cute." She giggled again.
Amy's cheeks lit up, and at that moment she couldn't tell if it was from embarrassment or anger.
"Ed baby, let's go somewhere a little more private so Jamie here doesn't have to watch us." She grabbed his hand and shot Amy a glare before they left to go to another room.
"It's Amy." She whispered to herself.
"That's Beth for ya." A voice spoke behind her.
Amy turned around and was met with the same blue eyes from the funeral.
"Amy, right?" He smiled.
"Not Jamie." Amy laughed.
A comfortable silence washed over the pair.
"Yeah, I don't really like her. I mean, she's nice and all, but she never wants to be with us," Chris looked over his shoulder to see if anyone was listening to him, "when we're together, she starts making out with Ed and pulls him away. It's real fucking annoying."
He took a sip of his beer.
Amy looked down at her hands.
"I dunno. I haven't even met her before now. I don't get why she'd glare at me. I haven't done anything to her." Her voice trailed off as she took a sip of her own beer.
"Eddie talks about you, ya know."
Chris stated nonchalantly.Amy almost spit out her drink.
"Oh?" She met his eyes again.
"Yeah. You seem pretty cool." Chris smirked.
Amy couldn't tell if she had gotten some liquid courage, but for the first time her cheeks didn't burn as they usually do. Instead, she smirked right back.
"Thanks babe." She calmly took another sip.
Chris chuckled and twirled the empty bottle in between in fingers.
"Suppose I play a Beth-Card and we get outta here?" He asked.
Amy has never said yes so quickly.
*
Chris drove his beat up Ford to a random location. Amy had no clue as to where he was taking her."I hope your not driving me to my death." She told him.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Chris asked.
"Oh you know, like in those murder shows. I can't picture it now: Amy Alcaster made the decision that would change her life forever; getting into Chris Cornell's car." She giggled.
Chris dramatically inhaled.
"How dare you!" He joked. Amy giggled again.
After a few minutes the car pulled up to a pond. Chris got out and opened the trunk.
Amy opened her door and held it open, taking in the beautiful scenery.
It was dark out, but the moon illuminated the blue water, making it appear silver. Wild flowers lined the pond, the purples and greens dancing with each other.
She heard footsteps behind her but Amy wasn't alarmed. She felt something drape around her shoulders and looked to her right to see Chris standing there with a boyish grin on his face.
"Thanks." Amy whispered, pulling the blanket tighter around her shoulders.
"No problem."
Chris had turned his head to admire the scenery for himself. Amy did the same.
A few moments later Chris broke the comfortable silence.
"This is really beautiful." He told her.
"Yeah." She agreed.
Chris turned to fully face her.
"But there someone who is more beautiful." He reached out and tucked her hair behind her ear.
"Oh? Who?" Amy smirked.
"I think you know who."
Their lips met.
Amy kissed back without any hesitation.
But someone was still in the back of her mind.
Eddie.
