**** For those who need a refresher on what Nate looks like.****

A MONTH LATER

AMBER P.O.V. –

I had been doing everything I could possibly do to account for the missing money. And no matter what I did, every single road led back to Nate’s father. I thought it would be pointless to confront him again, he would simply lie. So I stayed late until after everyone left and snuck into his office.

What I found was appalling. There were all types of forged checks. Budgets where the numbers had been physically manipulated to reflect one thing, but were in actuality another. All types of shady things.

It confirmed everything I expected. He had been stealing money. And not because he needed it, but because he wanted to sabotage his own son.

He could not stand to see Governor Parker so proud of someone besides him, and especially since they both held political offices, Nate and his grandfather had become close.

I had tried to talk to Nate about this before but he wouldn’t believe it. He would just repeatedly say, "I know my dad has done some crazy stuff but he wouldn’t do me like that." That let you know he had a huge heart.

But now that I had proof, maybe he would believe otherwise.

I took the information I needed and headed home. I opened the door to the smell of something wonderful.

“Sweetheart that’s you?” Nate called out.

“Yes.” I said nervously taking off my shoes. I didn’t know how he was going to react when I told him this.

He came to greet me with a peck on my lips.

“I’ve made you dinner.” He grabbed my hand and walked me to the living room.

“Where is Sata?”

“Peacefully sleeping. Finally.”

He directed me to a seat and I sat down. He pushed up my chair.

“Stay right here.” He left out.

I shook my head and smiled at his continuous efforts to cook for me. But he had been closely working with our chef, so I don’t know. Maybe he learned something.

He returned with a plate with a napkin covered over it.

“Tada!” He sat the plate down and removed the napkin.

It looked surprisingly great.

“It looks good, but I’m scared to taste it.” I told him.

“I tasted it. It’s pretty good. Eat up.”

I looked at the Baked Lemon Pepper Chicken and Green Beans he cooked. I picked over it with a fork.

“Just eat it.” He stood behind my chair smiling.

I cut a piece of chicken and put it to my lips. I hesitated a few times before being actually being brave enough to taste it. Finally I did.

“Amazing.” I gave a bright smile.

“Me and Boyd (our chef) have been working on this same thing for two weeks. He was like a tyrant making sure I got it perfect.”

“I am so proud of you baby.” He bent down and kissed me. “And finally I can eat, cause Mama starving.”

He went to get his plate and sat back down.

“So…how are the beans?”

“Good as well. You’re improving.” I gave him a fist bump.
