"We can do that?" Hazel asked surprised, she didn't even realise that was an option.

"Hurts like hell, and in my opinion, takes part of your soul away but that can't be proved. You was born like this for a reason, why take something out of you that clearly belongs there. Why you thinking on it?"

"Definitely not." Hazel told her, causing relief to flood Melinda but she didn't give it away "I just never knew my mom would do that. Guess I don't really know her as well as I thought."

"Your mother has always been her own woman. I respect that. It's hard as hell to be that in this world. And what she wanted was always different for what I wanted for her."

"Well she missed out" Hazel said taking another seat back on the couch "having someone like you teach all this? You're just the biggest badass in Washington"

"Oh I know kid" Melinda smirked taking a sip and sitting down next to her "I know."

Hazel was humming to her music that was playing in her room as she finished the final coat of her mascara. After the ordeal with her parents, she told her grandmother about meeting up with Jasper. Her grandmother just nodded and told her to be back by midnight which was a pretty gracious curfew. She was expecting Jasper any minute and was just completing the finishing touches of her make-up.

"Hazel!" Her grandmother called from up the stairs "Nosferatu's here for you." Hazel rolled her eyes, grabbed her purse and headed down the stairs. Jasper smiled as he saw her come down.

"Grams don't be rude" Hazel scolded gently, slightly embarrassed by her grandmothers comment.

"He doesn't mind, do you fang?" Melinda grinned at Jasper.

"Not at all Mrs Thompson." Jasper gave her a charming smile back, still liking the woman even though she clearly didn't approve of him.

"If you're gonna be hanging round my grandkid, Melinda is fine. If we're around other people, it's supreme leader to you."

Hazel and Jasper both let out a chuckle. Hazel quickly kissed her grandmothers cheek and began leading Jasper out of the house.

"I'll be checking for bite marks when she gets back!" Melinda yelled before Hazel closed the door. She groaned loudly and looked at Jasper apologetically.

"I'm sorry about her, she's old. She doesn't know what she's saying"

"I may be old but I'm not deaf sweetheart!" Her grandmother called from behind the door.

"Don't worry about it" Jasper chuckled again "I like her a lot."

"She likes you too, in her own weird way. She probably wouldn't have let you in the house if she didn't. So, where you taking me Texas Charming?" Hazel asked Jasper as they walked towards his car. He smirked and opened the passenger door to her, then using his vampire speed to get in the car before she even had time to close her door "I don't think I'm ever gonna get used to that."

"Well you're about to be surprised more often then aren't ya darlin?" Jasper told her, reversing out of her drive way. The whole drive they talked. They talked about Hazel's life back in Atlanta, minus the dead ex who actually wasn't really dead - but she didn't mention that. They talked about what Jasper liked to do since he's had practically an eternity to do stuff. They talked about his siblings and the stuff they get up too.

"Wait, you guys don't sleep?! As in ever?!" Hazel asked clearly shocked at the statement Jasper revealed too her. He just turned to her and smiled, causing her heart to pick up slightly.

"Nope. Not even a little bit. It was hard to adjust too at first, but you kinda get used to it. Have a lot of spare time on your hands"

"I don't think I'd know what to even start with." Hazel told him honestly "does it not get a little boring?"

"With a brother like Emmett? Are you kidding me? The guy once tried to punch his way through the ground to see if he could get to China." Hazel burst out laughing, causing Jasper's smile to grow wider.

"No he did not, oh my god are you serious?!"

"He got pretty far, not middle of the earth far but you know. We had to stop him at some point."

"That's incredible" Hazel said still laughing slightly "he's something else that's for damn sure."

Jasper agreed, and then pulled up at the edge of the woods. He quickly got out the car and went to the trunk, grabbing a small basket that Alice had packed and a blanket.

"Jasper I trust you and everything, but this is all turning very slender manish and I really don't wanna get stabbed. This is a new sweater." Hazel commented looking into the woods. Jasper simply just held out his hand to her, smiling gently.

"Trust me, you got nothing to be afraid off. Except the big scary vampire you're with."

"Please" she scoffed taking his hand "I'd feel a lot more scared if I didn't know you say 'Yee-haw' every once in a while."

"Once a cowboy, always a cowboy." Jasper laughed at her and they both walked through the woods. Quicker than expected, they came across a small clearing which Hazel gasped at. There was fairy lights all set up around a small wooded area, with candles lighting it up. A few blankets and pillows were on the ground so they had something to sit on.

"I know witches like being around nature" Jasper said sheepishly "and Alice said you loved to stargaze with your friends back when you were home so I thought-" Hazel cut him off by throwing herself into his arms and kissing him. His arm not holding the basket and blanket went around her waist and held her tightly to him.

"It's perfect" she whispered when she eventually pulled away from him "thank you."

"Anything for you, now come on sit down. Esme made you food and I think she would actually attempt to ground me if it went cold before you had chance to eat it."
