HAVEN

"Haven?"

I looked up to see James standing there. He greeted me with a wide smile and as I smiled back, I took in how much he still looked like he was in high school.

The only differences were that now he kept scruff on his face, his hair was a little shorter, and he was a little more built than he was in high school.

"Hi James," I said quietly, standing up.

He surprised me by hugging me and saying, "It's so wonderful to see you."

"Oh, thanks," I replied awkwardly, giving him a hug back to try and make it less awkward.

"Do you want to go for a walk? I really would like to catch up," He said after releasing me.

I nodded and as we headed onto the street, I asked, "How's Holland?"

"She's great," He said with a large smile.

"That's really good. I'm happy to see that you two are still together after all these years."

"We're actually engaged," He was nearly gushing as he said this. "I proposed a few months ago and we're still working out all the details."

"That's really great," I said.

He smiled before asking, "What about you? Anyone new in your life?"

I shook my head and said, "Nope. I'm still single. My friend Dylan has tried time and time again to get me out there but apparently, I'm as stubborn as a mule."

James suddenly pulled me to a stop and faced me. With a serious face and voice, he asked, "What happened, Haven?"

I shook my head and said, "A lot has happened."

"Like what, Haven?"

"Too much. I can't talk about it."

"You went to college?" He asked, changing the subject and smiling.

"Yeah. I majored in art and photography."

"It does sound like you. He said how amazing your drawings were."
