"No way! That was you lot?" you asked, tears of joy falling from your eyes.
"Really," James promised, shaking his cup of butterbeer into the air. "When McGonagall found out, she just told us to not to do it again!" You laughed harder. "Honestly I don't know what else I expected from the Marauders," you admitted, "but I'm still not over the fact that you guys managed to teach all the suits of armor those carols." You laughed. "It was just for the holiday, it truly was fun," he said.
"Who came up with the clever rhyme?" you said, taking a long sip of butterbeer. When you put your cup down James laughed. "What?" you asked. "It's just- " he reaches over the table between you with a napkin in his hand. "I got it." He lightly touched the top of your lip and wiped off some foam. James rolled the napkin into a ball and squeezed it in his hand.
"Um, was there really foam on my lip?" you asked. "No," James said, laughing and throwing the napkin onto the table. You looked into his eyes. "How are you just so damn cute, Y/N?" He asked, looking back at you. Your cheeks blared up. "One could say the same about you, James Potter." James took a sip of butterbeer, then stared deeply into your eyes. It felt like he was looking into your soul.
"To be honest I forgot your question."
Of course, you thought. "So did I," you said laughing. "Why don't we pay for these and then go outside?" James said with a suggestive eyebrow raise. You nodded eagerly. "We'll split it?" you proposed. James scoffed.
"Please, just put your purse away and keep looking pretty. I've got the bill." You laughed and blushed again. How did James always manage to make you blush when no other boy could? James pulled some galleons out of his pocket and slapped them on the table.
"Isn't that a bit much?" you asked, "It was only two cups of butter beers." He shrugged. "I come here a lot, Madam Rosmerta will appreciate the tip," he decided. "Let's go." Yet again, he offered you his arm. You blushed and accepted again, and James led you outside of the Three Broomsticks.
"Padfoot? Moony? Wormtail? Evans?" James exclaimed as soon as you cried, "Lily, stop spying on me! Remus, Sirius, Peter, you too!"
"We, um, also fancied a drink," Remus lied. You rolled your eyes. When this boy finally learned how to lie it would be a miracle.
"And Lily was going to teach us a spell but it seems she doesn't even know it," Sirius added through gritted teeth. Lily seemed to visibly shrink under Sirius' gaze.
"Well, I haven't known it very long," she shot back. You glanced at James and silently asked, how long are they going to keep this up? He shrugged in response. "Can you just admit that you were spying on us?" you asked the group. "It'll save us a lot of time and James and I can keep... doing our thing." You winced; how else were you supposed to explain you were about to make out when your best friends interrupted you?
"Oh!" Peter cried. "I think we should leave guys, let's just let them do their thing," he said in a hushed whisper. Sirius rolled his eyes, hooking an arm around Remus and Lily. Remus hooked his around Peter. "Just use protection," Sirius warned with a wink. You went bright red and so did James.
"Git," James muttered. "Don't worry about him, let's just do our thing," you said, imitating Peter. James laughed. "I'm not sure if the poor guy's even had the talk yet." Your eyes went wide. "That's interesting, can we not talk about Peter or Remus or Sirius before we make out?" you asked sweetly. James laughed. "Of course."
Later that night ...
"James, what the hell happened to you?" Sirius asked as you two entered the common room. He shrugged. "I just fell in love with the best person ever," he said. Sirius stood up from the couch.
"Love? You're sixteen, you can't be in love!" He raised his index finger in the air. "I forbid it!"
James copied him, raising a finger in the air too. But he raised the middle one. "I can too!" He laughed his way through to the stairs and slid up the stairs to his dorm.
"What'd you do to him Y/N?" Sirius asked, turning to you. "Me? I didn't do anything!" you persisted. Sirius raised his finger and shook it with such determination you backed yourself into the couch. "What. Did. You. Do!" He said. "We just talked and had a great time, I promise that's all!" you said.
"Liar!" Remus cried, jumping off the couch. "What! Where did you come from? You know what? Go interrogate James about what happened, he should be calm by now."
Sirius and Remus raced upstairs and ran into Peter, who was on his way down.
"Y/N! You have no idea what you got yourself into! James told me what happened!" He panted. "Good luck," he said before running back upstairs leaving a baffled Remus and Sirius. They exchanged glances and ran up the stairs, faster than before. You laughed.
"Y/N, what exactly did you agree to?" Lily asked. "Where did you come from?" you said. "I expect the sneakiness from Remus, not you Lily!" You pretended to act betrayed. "What did you do?" Lily demanded.
"I agreed to be his official girlfriend," you said with a smirk. Lily's has dropped. "James Potter committed himself to something other than Quidditch?" she asked, amazed. "Not technically," you said. "He's letting me wear his jersey the day before games! It's gonna be like me giving him luck, you know? And it's gonna be perfect!" you squealed, bursting with excitement. Lily looked at you. Sirius and Remus ran up the stairs from where they had been eavesdropping to their dorm.
"I'm glad you're so happy," she said. "I ship it too!" Lily laughed. "Well, I ship Remus and Lily too!" you exclaimed with a big smile on your face. You both laughed and walked to your dorm room. Meanwhile, in the boys' dorm...
"JAMES!" Sirius yelled, bursting through the door. Remus stormed in behind him. James didn't move or flinch at the sound. He was sitting on the windowsill, looking at the sunset. The sky was a mix of orange, pink, and cotton candy blue fading away. "James, you actually asked her out!" Remus said, sitting next to him on the windowsill. "And she said yes! I thought we were gonna have to pretend to hate Y/N, she's so nice, that would've been really hard," Sirius said, coming over and pulling up a chair next to the windowsill.
Peter peeked out from his bed covers. "Are you guys done yelling now?" he asked. "James already came in here screaming how he did it, he actually did it, and then- " "Peter, shush, we're trying to figure out what Y/N got herself in to," Sirius commanded. Peter shrunk back into the covers.
"James, can you tell us what happened so we can be happy for you already?" Remus asked. James finally stopped staring at the sunset and turned around to the Marauders, the purest smile on his face. Peter came out of his bed and pulled up a chair next to Sirius.
"Alright lads, take note. This is how you get a girlfriend..."
