You were woken up by someone tapping your shoulder. "Y/N, Y/N, are you okay? They won't tell me what's going on but said you have to tell me, I don't know what I did if I hurt you I'm so sorry-"
"Sirius," you said, struggling to sit up, "I need you to be quiet right now." He shut up immediately and sat down on the bed next to you. "I- that night was a mistake." Sirius looked up at you, eyebrows furrowed in concern. "It's a mistake that we can't hide from anyone anymore," you said, beginning to choke up. By the end of the sentence, you were in tears and couldn't stop. Madam Pomfrey came over from where she was and gave you the purple potion from before that helped with your anxiety. You drank the whole bottle and felt slightly better.
"Sirius..." you stopped. Did you really have to tell him? What would he say? What he says now is going to determine the rest of your life. He is in control. Sirius was looking at you with concern in his eyes. You hadn't realised but he had taken ahold of your hand and was squeezing it tight now. The only thing to do now was to blurt it out. "I'm pregnant." Sirius stared at you for a minute before asking, "Are you sure?" Tears filled your eyes and were mimicked in his.
He leaned over and pulled you into a hug. You started crying into his shoulder. "It's gonna be okay Y/N, I promise, it's gonna be okay..." Sirius repeated this and held you for so long that you don't know how long you sat there for. In his arms you felt safe from everything else and it was an escape. Suddenly, Sirius pulled away.
"Judging by your reaction, you want to keep it?" he said. "I do want to keep our baby and I want you to be in its life," you stated. At this Sirius looked hesitant. "I grew up with just my mum and she's great and I love her but I got so lonely. I need the baby to have a dad." "Um, I don't know much about fathers or how to be a good one," he said. "Not many people know this but I don't actually live at my house. My family's horrible and they hate me. If they found out about this baby, or you, you would both be in incredible danger. I've lived at the Potters since fourth year in the summer. I don't know- I don't know how to be a father, Y/N." Sirius was looking at the floor.
"Hey," you said gently, "I don't know how to be a teen mum. You need to be in this baby's life, and I know you're going to do great." Sirius was still looking at the floor. "We don't have to worry about much for a while, though, we have nine months!" you said with a happy laugh. Sirius laughed and looked up at you.
"I guess this is a good enough time to ask you to be my girlfriend?" he said. "We're going to have to raise a kid together, after all." You smiled for the first time in a day and hugged Sirius. "Thank you." The hug ended and he smiled at you. "Of course."
"You did what?!" James yelled. "Look, I know, it's not ideal. But I can't leave her alone! I don't know what I'm going to do but she's not going to be alone," Sirius argued back. Peter sat in the corner, trying to not get involved. Whenever a big fight happened, Sirius usually turned on Peter so he tried to avoid Sirius as much as possible when these things happened.
"James, calm down," Remus said, failing to keep a calm semblance. "Let's just try and listen to Sirius' story again and see how we can help-" "There's nothing to listen to, Remus! He slept with a girl and was so drunk that he got her pregnant! Now the bloke is trapped!" James yelled.
"How can you even be so inconsiderate right now? Since I started talking you've just yelled at me and haven't asked me once how I was doing. I'm going to be a father, James, and it's only November now. The baby will be born before seventh year! A whole year at school, as a father. I don't know how to do that! I can't believe you! I thought you of all people wouldn't treat me like this." Sirius grabbed his leather jacket and left the dorm, slamming the door behind him.
After leaving Y/N in the infirmary for the night, he went to the dorm and was questioned on where he was and what he was doing. Once he finally told his tale, James was furious at him and Remus was obviously disappointed but trying to help. No one had asked how he was doing. The only thing that mattered was that he had messed up, and now he had really done it. The one thing Sirius knew was that he wasn't going back to the dorm tonight. He couldn't face James again. What he needed now was a drink.
Sirius went through the passageway that connected Hogwarts to Honeydukes. For some reason, the only thing he could concentrate on doing was blowing up small rocks that he passed. Once he got to Honeydukes, Sirius snuck into the cellar and climbed up the stairs. He didn't realise how late it was, the store was already shut down for the night. A Saturday night at Honeydukes was usually busy.
He easily snuck out the store and made his way down to The Three Broomsticks. He went in and gave Madam Rosmerta a galleon and asked for a firewhisky. He had been doing this since his fourth year when he beat a regular at a shot competition. Rosmerta sat him at a booth in the corner and brought over two firewhiskys.
"Oh, I just need the one-"
"The second is for me," said a thick Scottish accent. Oh shit, Sirius thought. "Hello Professor McGonagall," Sirius said politely. "Hello Sirius," she said. She hadn't called him Mr. Black in years, she learned he wouldn't respond. "I promise, the drink isn't a regular thing, I'm having a rough time and-" "I know of your problems Sirius, that's also why I'm here." He watched as his professor drank half of her firewhisky in one gulp. "I cannot remember the last time you called me Professor McGonagall and not Minnie," she admitted. "I want to make sure you're alright, Sirius," she said. "Let's talk."
"How'd you know I was here?" he asked. That seemed like a fair starting point. "I went to your dorm to check on you and Mr. Lupin informed me that you had most likely gone to get a drink to clear your mind, ironically." Sirius sighed. "It helps me think." "Surprisingly," she muttered. "Sirius, I know how much Miss Y/L/N is pushing you to be there for the baby. Do you want to be there for the baby?" McGonagall asked. "Of course I do, I couldn't live with myself if I abandoned it. I'd rather be a crappy father than none at all," he said. "I just don't know how to even be a father. I've seen Mr. Potter with James and I but I don't know how to be a father to a baby."
"Maybe you should tell the Potters about this," McGonagall suggested. "They'll have great advice and probably offer financial support. Then there's the other issue..." Sirius took a sip of firewhisky, feeling it burn the back of his throat, the feeling that made him feel alive. "What?" he asked."With your parents, there has been a feeling among the faculty that it is best a Secret Keeper put in place concerning the baby's whereabouts. Once it is born, your parents will most likely be furious it is a half-blood since Miss Y/L/N is a muggleborn. It is not safe for her or the baby if the Blacks find out." "I understand," Sirius said. "I'd like to finish the conversation tomorrow, maybe over detention for drinking, Minnie?" Sirius raised his glass. "To the kid and Y/N." He finished his drink in a gulp.
