Marissa
The day I dreaded the most every year was upon us.
My stomach turned at the memories that have haunted me every year on this very day.
I snuggled up in my sheets from head to toe as I watched a documentary. I was all by myself today because everyone knew that I didn't wish for any company.
My brother was out, Kiara and Mia were lending a hand at the campus' event later on, in fact that's where most people would be today.
There was a swift knock on my door before the lock turned as whoever entered.
I looked back seeing that it was Jeremy coming in.
Here he is looking so good again, dressed in his usual all black attire.
I am depressed and lusting after a man I can't have.
Jeremy closed my door behind him with a white box in his hands.
"Hey," he greeted me, he eyed me curiously once he noticed my unsettled demeanor.
"Jeremy, please. I'd like to be alone today." I turned my back to him and pulled the sheets over my head.
"Well, if you know me at all, you know I don't listen," he replied. "Today's your birthday."
"I know."
"Marissa?" He called. "I brought you a cake." I still didn't budge at his declaration.
He sighed deeply before setting it down on my bedside table.
"What's up with you?" He questioned.
"Nothing. I would just like to have this day for myself."
He pulled my sheet from over my head and I turned to face him with a questioning look for disturbing me.
"Is there a reason for that? How can I help you feel better if you don't tell me what's going on?"
I shook my head. "Tell me," he urges.
There's about two minutes of silence in which I argue with my self internally on whether or not I should share this piece of my life with him.
My lips betray me before I've truly made a decision, as the sentence tumbles from my lips. "October 31 has consecutively been the worst day of my life every year since I was old enough to understand," I explained.
His eyebrows pulled together curiously as he watched me calculatedly. He kicked his shoes off before getting in bed beside me.
"Hey, I'm here. I cleared my schedule to see you and now I'm not leaving until you tell me what's up."
I stayed silent not uttering a word.
"Alright cool."
He got up from the bed and got the remote and switched off the documentary I was watching.
"If you don't want to celebrate your birthday then that's fine, but today's still halloween so let's watch a movie," he said.
Van Helsing was what he selected.
