"I'm serious." I say stepping into the house.

"What's the matter?" Rosa asks. Victor peers out of the kitchen to glance at me.

"Can I...talk to you Rosa? With or without Victor?"

"Sure. Follow me."

Billy gives me a concerned look as I walk off to Rosa before we can into a room.

"What's the matter?"

I pull Maya out my bag and it seems Rosa's heart drops then and there.

"Does she need a Vet for this?" I ask.

"Well...her wounds don't seem lethal. The least I could do is patch them up with some roll-up bandages for when we had an animal we took care of one time. I had a dog, once too."

"Rosa."

"Yes, Y/n?"

I gulp. Hesitating and I take in a breath.

"Maya ended up like this while I was at school. She wasn't like this at all in the morning. Do...do you think Maya can stay in this house?"

"From now on?" Rosa asks.

"I feel like it's becoming more unsafe every passing week, even for her now. I know the kids love Maya and she can't stay at my house if she'll get hurt."

Rosa takes a breath in, before nodding her head. "Let me ask Victor about this while you kids play in the snow outside?"

I nod my head and step out the room. I pause, seeing Billy, Freddy, Eugene, Darla, Mary and Pedro standing outside it alarmed.

"Eavesdroppers."

"Is Maya going to live with us?" Darla asks.

"The woofer?" Victor asks poking his head out.

Rosa stands beside me, holding injured Maya.

"Oh no! What happened?!" Mary asks.

"I...uh, rather not say." My voice softer than it usually is, Billy seems to get the message.

"Let's go outside. I'm sure Maya will be okay." He puts his hand on my shoulder and gestures for me to go follow. I decide to agree and follow Billy out the door to the outside.

He shuts the door behind him and Freddy goes to the door, but Billy makes a signal to leave us be.

"So. What happened?" Billy asks.

"What do you mean?" I look over at him.

He puts his hands in his pockets and turns to me. He hesitates, giving me sparkling eyes.

"Maya. How was she injured?"

"Man." I sigh. "I have no clue. But it definitely wasn't from Mom, from Maya falling, a dog fight or run away. Which means..."

I hesitate, and there's a pause in the silence. "Your Dad."

I nod my head, biting my lip.

"Your Mom isn't the problem. It's your Dad, isn't it?"

"My Mom is insecure and she lets people walk all over her. And my dad always screams and shouts. He's never laid a hand on me but I've seen the house trashed with broken furniture and bottles all over the place. I think Maya got caught in the mess if an argument went on and I don't want Maya to be in that house anymore."

I try my best to not break with my honesty but tears begin to show from my eyes. Billy let's out a breath and he sighs.

"If he ever hurts you. Tell me, or Freddy, or Rosa, or Victor, okay?"
