(A/N hello again! So imagine this! I don't feel very inspired with a prompt today! Surprising I know. Honestly I want to write more Rhack, but watch tomorrow I'll want to write prompts instead! It just be like that sometimes. Anyways, my mom got a new car and it's cool and also I'm probably not going to write much today. Maybe like one prompt or maybe just maybe two if I haven't reached my goal. I chose one of the best prompts I have saved so let's do it! <3 hope you have fun reading this! )

Prompt - it's your first day as a gravedigger, but before you can start your shift, the boss pulls you to the side and hands you a shotgun. "Listen close, new hire, because I don't like repeating myself. I don't know what you've heard about the job, so I'm going to set the record straight. Yes, you're going to be dealing with zombies and skeletons, but they're easy to put down; but if you see any wildlife at all, run."

I was getting ready for my first night on the job, a very illegal one at that. When I was about ready to walk out with my equipment though, my boss grabbed me by the shoulders and spun me to face him. "Listen closely, new hire, I don't know what you've heard about this job if any at all, but just so you know you will be dealing with zombies, skeletons, and the undead," he took the shotgun that was strapped to his back into your hands, "this will make it easy to put them down. Whatever you do though, if you see any wildlife ever, you run and return here or to any safety! You got that?" He looked at you dead in the eye and you felt the truthfulness and worry in his voice, you gulped and nodded your head hesitantly. He looked relieved and let his tense grip on your shoulders go, leaving them sore; he seemed instantly less worried and grabbed his pipe, "okay, remember what I said. You can go now." He shooed you off with a wave of his hand.
Your heart, which was just bored before, now grew restless - your hands gripped the shotgun tight enough that they started going white. You tried to reason that he was only trying to joke around, but then again why would he give you an actual shotgun for a joke? Your mind started to wander off into frightening places, what did these zombies look like and what would happen if you saw a wild animal?
You shaky steps soon met with the gate of the cemetery, you took a deep breath that just made you shake even more, and then you took a step into the graveyard.
Once you took a couple of steps inside the graveyard, you looked around restlessly to try and see if something was lurking towards you in the dark. You sighed in relief as you saw absolutely nothing out of the ordinary, just countless headstones as far as the eyes could see.
You walked up to one of the closest ones and your heart and mind flinched and twisted at the thought of what you were supposed to do, you'd have to be insane to not feel any kind of sympathy and guilt for disrespecting the dead. However, you still wanted to get paid, so you hung your shotgun over your back and started to dig in with the shovel you brought. You're heart seemed to wrench itself more every time you heard the shovel dig deeper into the ground, then your heart dropped when you heard the loud bang and felt the sudden stop when your shovel made contact with wood.
You put the shovel down by your side and looked around as you began to sit down, you're eyes seemed to shake too and you couldn't really focus on one thing in your sight. You decided that there wasn't anyone around and you swallowed the lump in your throat, reaching down to try and pry open the old lid.
The lid cracked and broke in half when you tried to open it, leaving behind dust and the most nauseating smell you had ever witnessed. It was disgusting, worse than getting multiple bottle of curdled milk and opening them in a small, unventilated room. You held a hand over your nose and started to gag and cough, the smell started to even burn your eyes. You looked down again with tearful eyes and tried to do your work as quickly as possible, you grabbed a ring and necklace from the almost completely decomposed skeleton of a person. Worms and maggot crawled all over the dead body, making your mind squirm, but you forced your body not to react to all of the wrong in the situation and you kept your mind focused.
You ruffled through the large tattered dress and found a couple more pieces of jewelry including earrings and an ankle bracelet. You put them in your bag and you were about to place the broken piece of the lid back on the old coffin and rebury the person when you swear you saw the finger twitch in the corner of your eye. You turned to pick up the lid when the worst sound hit your ears, it sounds worse than fingernails on a chalkboard!
You swiftly turned to face the grave again only to see that the horrid noise was coming from the dead person. You couldn't do much but just sit and stare as the worm infested corpse starting to try and get up even though a worm was currently crawling out of its empty eye socket. Your face paled and your mind started to stammer, it seemed like your brain was lagging and all it could think was 'a dead person is moving'. You were paralyzed by fear and complete astonishment, but right when the dead person finally managed to stand up, the remnants of its pale skin taught along the frame of bone and wrinkled organs, your brain suddenly kicked into high gear.
Without even thinking, your body shot up and away from the walking corpse of a person, your mind was now racing at Mach speed, your thoughts rushing through, pushing for priority against each other. One thought managed to win the battle for just a split second, forcing you to remember that your boss gave you a shotgun and said that you'd be dealing with this type of stuff. Your shaky hands moved the shotgun from your back, but you couldn't bare to aim at the walking shambles in front of you; it was weak and silently moved at a snails pace, when your brain managed to focus onto reality again it marked how creepy and terrifying it was even though it was really slow.
Even knowing that you really couldn't get you unless you stood in the same spot for 10 minutes, you were still terrified by the sight! Who wouldn't be terrified at the sight of a shambling corpse walking straight towards you? It was hideous, a hole in the cheek let the dry and shriveled tongue loll outside of the face between the last remnants of rotting teeth. It's tattered clothes were covered in dust and wherever you looked, the thing was covered in bugs. There was barely any skin left on the corpse, leaving the final pieces of their organs that hadn't been eaten to be exposed or fall out of the body. No matter how you looked at it, there should be no possible way that the corpse could walk right now even if you were able to explain it being alive in the first place. Yet here it was, leaning on one foot and then leaning on the next, stepping a centimeter at a time.
It was terrifying and was unlike anything the movies had shown: it didn't have pinpoint pupils, or an intact body, it was a corpse that was alive, a corpse that didn't breathe or talk but was walking. It was terribly silent, the only sound being the terrible noise coming from it's squeaky muscles, straining to even move the legs that time bit. The sight was enough to make you gag and freak out, but along with the sound and smell it was almost too much to handle.
Just when you were beginning to calm down from your thoughts, you looked around and saw more of the shambling figures. Each were different, some almost entirely decomposed while others barely at all, the 'fresh' corpses walked faster and were actually closing the space between them and you quickly. Your face lost its color again and her fight or flight movement kicked into high gear again, your hands that stopped shaking from all of the adrenaline rushing through your veins tightened their grip on the shotgun and you readied to shoot without even thinking.
You shot the head of the closest one, thinking of all the zombie movies you had seen. Your heart dropped, the corpse you shot was a woman, she looked so intact like she had just died a day ago. It was almost like shooting an actual person, that's how normal the corpse looked. You quickly snapped out of your momentary panic and decided to just try and run from the crowd of zombies.
You didn't have to run for long before you couldn't even see them though, the adrenaline making you sprint like you had never done before. Your legs immediately got wobbly and gave away under you, dropping you to the floor while taking deep shaky breaths to calm yourself down. 'They're gone, they won't get her for a while so you can relax' you tried to convince yourself. Needless to say, it wasn't working much.
Just when you felt like you had regained strength in your muscles again, you couldn't catch a break because you saw a squirrel sitting on a headstone just a little ways away from you. Your heart dropped into Hell itself as you saw the squirrel's back and tail, it was facing away from you. You tried to silently get up, but the rustling of grass immediately grabbed its attention and it looked at you, it looked normal.
You felt your eyes sting and your heart beat louder and faster in your ears as you had a staring contest with a seemingly innocent animal. It jumped off the headstone and dashes a couple feet forward, if someone were to see your face they would say they saw a ghost. You quickly stepped back multiple times, your mind was racing again with questions. The squirrel was intent on getting near you though, it dashed a couple more inches towards you and you ran away from it backwards. You could start to hear the creaking of the zombies begin to rise from behind you but you didn't dare look behind you in fear of what the squirrel would do. No, you kept your eyes trained right onto the tiny animal.
It dashed forward again and you ran backwards again, noting that the sounds were getting pretty loud, but they were still yards away from you so you paid it no mind. Your brain immediately started to think 'it's trying to push me into the crowd of zombies' the voice started to scream that phrase at you over and over again, to the point where it overtook the sound of your heartbeat and covered the clicking of the crowd of corpses behind you.
You could feel cold sweat drip down your forehead as you stared at the face of the squirrel, it didn't look any different but you started to view it as something demonic. It tilted it's terrifying head at you and you both just stared and stood still, your eyes starting to burn from not blinking. It looked like it was toying with you, laughing at your suffering.
Your brain became delirious, crazed, you were flooded with fury and your pale face quickly became red in anger. You clenched your teeth and your unthinking brain made your body tense and step forward towards the damned thing. It didn't look swayed by her attempt at intimidation, it looked like it was mocking you even more and another wave of anger crashed over you, drowning any rational thought or noise. There was nothing else, just you and that cursed squirrel.
The demon made no more attempts at getting closer to you, it seemed complacent with its position. Your breathing became heavy and rapid, your heightened heart rate from everything taking a toll on you. For some reason, you didn't pay attention to your surrounding at all. You didn't want to listen to the approaching zombies, all you wanted was to get the wretched thing away from you.
For some reason though, your furious mind seemed to stutter for a split second allowing you to have rational thoughts for a tiny amount of time. In that time you immediately heard the crowd of zombies, it sounded like they were breathing down your neck. Your surprising fury was transformed into a sudden icy fear that forced your body to dash away. Your eyes lifted from the small devil for a moment to see the crowd of zombies were currently right where you were standing a second ago, that thought forced sudden relief and dread to grip their claws into your heart.
You immediately remembered the squirrel and turned your vision towards it again, it had moved. You tried to fight off the anger that flushed your face at the sight of it. The wretched thing moved when you weren't looking!
You managed to fight off the rage enough to think though, you started to walk backwards while staring at the demon. It was a very slow process, and every time you blinked you had a heart attack as the thing moved closer each time. You were faster than the zombies though thankfully, and you managed to feel your way out of the cemetery. You kept walking backwards on the gravel road, your eyes not once leaving the cursed thing out of sight.
The little devil taunted you, it smiled at you.

The squirrel ran up the tree.

(A/N oh my god this is beautiful! I can't believe my own hands actually wrote that! I just AHHHH!! This is actually something that I liked?
