Val's POV
The kids just stare at us in surprise.
"They are not robots." The older girl says.
"They're kids." The little boy says.
I nod my as Toby says, "That's... That's right. I'm a kid like you." Toby says.
I could tell that Toby wasn't going to tell them that he was a robot.
"Wait, what about her. She has robot wings." The older boy says.
"Well, someone created these wings for me when I was little." I say as I put my feather away.
The kids nod in understanding while the older boy walks towards Trashcan.
"We want robots, not kids, you garbage-eater." The older boy says as he grabs a wrench from Trashcan.
"So, where are you from, non-robots?" The older girl asks us.
"Up there." I say as I point up at the sky, towards Metro City.
"Huh, you do look like you come from Heaven." The older boy mumbles to himself.
"I heard that." I say to him.
"Oh." He says as he looks down in embarrassment.
I just gave him one more glance before turning to look at Toby.
"We're from Metro City." Toby says.
"Metro City? Can you believe it, guys? They're from Metro City and one of them is actually talking to me." The older girl says with sarcasm in her voice.
"Are you feeling okay?" Toby asks her.
"Oh, my gosh! He talked to me twice. Well, this is definitely going in my diary as the most exciting day of my life." The girl continues to say with sarcasm.
"Okay, I get it. You don't like people from Metro City." Toby says in an understanding way.
"Metro City. Robots waiting on you hand and foot. I'd love to visit, just for one day." The older boy says.
"They wouldn't let you in. They have a strict 'No losers from the Surface allowed' policy. Anyway, why would you want to go someplace where people think you're garbage?" The older girl asks.
I feel a little sympathy for them and so does Toby. I could tell by the look on his face.
"I mean, look at this." The older girl says as she picks up a phone that came from Metro City. "Can you believe someone just threw it away?" She asks.
I look next to her to see that the older boy was going to swipe the phone from her. But the older girl was fast to see this and moved the phone away from his grasp.
"Nu-uh! Finders keepers." The older girl says to the older boy.
The older girl walks in the other direction as the older boy walked to us.
"So, what are you doing down here?" He asks us.
"We don't know. Looking for something if you want to put it that way." I answer as I look out in the distance.
"Did you run away?" The little boy asks us.
"I did. But it was to follow him." I say as I point at Toby.
"Yeah. But for me, not exactly. They sort of suggested I find a new place, whatever that means." Toby says after me.
"Dude, it means they kicked you out." The little girl says to Toby.
"Well, I..." Toby says as he starts to stutter a little.
I then pat his back in comfort.
"I'm Zane." The older boy introduces.
"I'm Widget." The little girl says.
"Hi, I'm Sludge, and I'm older than her." The little boy says.
"By 90 seconds." Widget says to Sludge.
"And I'm Cora. What's your name?" The older girl asks.
"Oh, it's-" Toby was interrupted when three robots carried him away.
"What just happened?" I hear Cora ask from behind me.
"Hey! No one steals my brother!" I yell before I grab one of my feathers and throw it at the robots that were running away.
I sigh in disappointment since they got away.
"Don't worry. We'll get him back." Cora says as she stands to my left.
"Yeah, we will help you." Zane says as he stands to my right.
I sigh again and then nod.
I attract my feather, that I threw to the robots earlier, back to my wings.
I then use my wings to fly up.
"I'll follow them from the sky! You guys follow them from the ground!" I yell down to them.
They all nod as they start running in the direction the robots went.
I look ahead of me and start to fly in the same direction.
