Falling in Love with a Irken (Invader Zim X Reader)

AN: Sorry for the late update! I work in an office and there is talk about lay-offs and contamination. It has been a bit stressful and busy few weeks. I am hoping to update the next chapter sooner as there may be a lockdown coming!

"Told you I would be back."

Zim was stunned, he couldn't tell if he finally lost his sanity or if it was really you. He starts to take a step forward when-

"MASTERS LOVE!" Gir yells as he launches himself at you.

You stumble back and start moving around trying to balance yourself. Unfortunately you ended up falling on the ground into Zim's base.

"AHH! Gir You're so heavy!" You try to inhale but the weight of Gir was too much for you.

"Y/N! MASTER MISSED YOU SO MUCH! HE EVEN CRIED-"

"GIR! Enough!" Zim Hisses.

"Immma make waffles!" Gir yells out and jumps off of you and runs off into another room. You are still just laying on the floor looking up.

Silence.

Zim wasn't saying anything to you.

"Um...Zim?" You start to get up and look over to him. He was just staring at you. You notice his disguise disappeared. He looked so handsome, god did you miss him this past half a year.

"...Soo?" Zim mumbles to himself. He has a lot on his mind, you could tell just by his expression and tone, not to mention his clenched fists.

You slowly take a few steps closer to him. You carefully bring up your hands and place it on his cheek. Zim flinches slightly at your foreign touch.

"Zim.." You lightly call out for him as you inch your lips closer and closer until they make contact with Zim's.

Your heart melts from the kiss, you missed Zim so much and planned on not leaving him for a very long time. Well I mean if Zim still felt the same way...

You two held the kiss for only a moment until you pulled away.

"I missed you." Your eyes were tearing up slightly. You went in for another kiss until you notice Zim turn his head. "What?" You softly ask. You were nervous, why would he pull away? You found his reaction weird. You honestly thought he would be overjoyed to see you.

"Did you pick your mate while you were on the Massive?" Zim's voice was full of doubt, pain, worry, and sadness. He was sure you picked a much better invader than him, and that thought alone ate him alive. These past months have been tough for the little Invader.

"Yes I did." You smile to yourself thinking of what you told your father.

Zim knew it, there was no way you would pick a defective Irken like him.

While Zim hid for months in his secret toilet from Dib...(This was before he teleported Earth to the Massive) He had a lot to think about. Something he came to terms with was that he was a defective Irken. Throughout his entire life, Zim would overhear conversations about how he was defective and was the worst at everything. Worthless. Dumb. Stupid. Destructive. Annoying. A burden. The Worst. Terrible. All words Zim was way too familiar with. Until you came along at least. You brought the best out of Zim and warmed his stone cold heart.

Larb was among the many Irkens that would poke fun at Zim during school days. Invader Larb, a well respected Irken that always outshined Zim in every way. Naturally, Zim of course thought you would pick Larb to be your mate, not a defective like Zim. He hated how he loved you. Something so embarrassing as an Invader. No as an Irken, it's embarrassing and wrong. But why did it feel so...Natural? and Pleasant?
