Opening the door, you were met with her golden eyes. Mrs Eguchi was a strict woman who never allowed any mistakes. She had always been hard on you and would criticize you to no end but she was an honest teacher and whenever you improved she made sure to inform your mother and praise you.

Without wasting any more time, you walked over to the piano. You brought out a chair for her to sit on and began preparing yourself to play what she had taught you last lesson. You placed your fingers on the keys and took a deep breath. This lesson had to be flawless, your mother was already on edge and you didn't want another reason for her to yell at you. You began playing the first few notes, you were stiff and rigid as those thoughts ran through your mind.

"Stop," she commanded.

You instantly did as you were told and turned around to face her.

"What have I been telling you?" She raised an eyebrow.

"That I have to play with emotion," you robotically repeated her words.

"And why do you continue to ignore me?" She crossed her arms as you remained silent at her question. It wasn't something that you were purposely doing... "Continue," she ordered after seeing that you had no answer to her question.

Nodding your head, you turned your attention back towards the piano. You breathed in deeply and began playing. You really wished you could be as good as Karma... His image suddenly came rushing through your mind as you imagined him playing. He seemed to have a careless nature but it was actually well thought of and planned out. He didn't think about how the music would sound or what others thought, he just played for fun and enjoyed the moment. A small smile tugged the corners of your lips as you thought about it. You followed his example and tried not to think about what your mother would say or about what your teacher was thinking and just enjoyed the moment. It was you and the music and nothing else. You allowed your mind to wander into a fictional world shaped by the sound of music and, before you even realized it, the song was over.

You hesitantly turned around to face your teacher who was silently looking at you. You then noticed she had dropped her pen so you were quick to pick it up and give it back to her. She took it from your hands without saying a word and began writing something on her notebook as you waited for her verdict.

"I don't know what kind of magic trick you've used," she shook her head in astonishment. "You were already an excellent student but the emotions you conveyed in this piece made your performance outstanding. I can see a great future ahead of you if you want to pursue a music career," she complimented. "I think you're ready for this piece," she handed you her notebook where she had written the name of a music score you had heard her talk endlessly about.

Once the class was over, your mother appeared to hear your teacher's report. Mrs Eguchi was quick to praise you as your mother listened in satisfaction. Once your piano teacher left, you remembered your meet up with Karma. How would you convince your mother to let you go?

"Uh, mother," you called unsurely as you followed her to the kitchen. "I... I was wondering if I could go out this evening," you said.

"With Kaori?" She raised an eyebrow, her tone wasn't hostile nor cold. It looked like your piano lesson had greatly improved her mood which immediately made you happy too as you were filled with pride at having accomplished such a thing.

"Uh yeah," you lied.

If your mother had been the one to suggest it was Kaori the one you were meeting up with, that meant he hadn't told her anything about you not talking anymore. You would have to take this opportunity to your advantage.

"I'll allow you to go," she slowly nodded her head as she began skimming through the pages of a cookbook.

You smiled internally at your good luck.
