|24| The Aftermath

As soon as you saw them, you couldn't help but smile and it didn't take you long before waving at them causing you to earn many glares from the students surrounding you. Your eyes glanced along the line in hopes of seeing him and you weren't disappointed. A big smile was instantly plastered on your face. You knew Karma didn't like going to assemblies and the fact that he had actually come was enough to cheer you up.

The assembly soon started. You listened in silence to what the man had to say. He talked about this semester's curriculum and what he expected from you. As always, he insulted the end class and dragged it down but it didn't have the same effect as other years, after all, class E had exceeded expectations and many of its students had ranked in a very good spot in the top 50.

To your surprise, the principal walked over to the podium with an announcement to make.

"Starting today," he smiled, "(L/N) (Y/N) will be returning back to class 3A after placing in the top 10," he announced. "As some of you might already know, she was revealed to be the mysterious girl playing one of the characters for the movie adaptation of one of the best-selling books," he continued as you tried to go unnoticed. "But just because we have a celebrity person amongst us doesn't mean you should get distracted from your studies," his eyes hardened. "Furthermore, you aren't allowed to take any pictures in school grounds although that won't be a problem since, as you are fully aware of, you're banned from using your phones," he arched an eyebrow, his gaze skipping from face to face. "And I expect no rumours circulating around or you will end up in the end class," he threatened as everyone gasped. "This is a top and privileged school so I suppose it won't be a problem," he finished his speech with a creepy smile.

Assembly was finally over. Your smile never left your lips as you thought of what principal Asano had said. You knew he was probably not doing it for you and it was just to stop students from getting distracted from their studies, but you couldn't help but feel grateful.

Since you had a few minutes before returning back to your class, you made your way over to the vending machine in the courtyard to grab a drink. You inserted some coins and pressed on the buttons for the one you wanted. Just as you were about to leave, you saw a milk carton that caught your attention. It was white and pink and, as you looked closely, you realized you had seen it before. It was the one Karma was seen drinking. You smiled and bought it for him as a way of thanking him for coming to the assembly, it's the least you could do.

You walked over to where your class E friends were, your action attracting the attention of many students who quickly began whispering with one another, sneaking glances towards your direction. Ignoring them, you continued walking.

"Hey!" Sugino greeted in excitement, him being the first one to see you. "Why are you here?" He asked as Nakamura facepalmed.

"Such a warm welcome," you said sarcastically.

"It wasn't meant like that," he quickly said. "I just thought you would prefer to be with your class A friends," he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck.

"Don't worry, I was just kidding," you chuckled. "I prefer hanging out with you guys," you admitted. "Hey, have you seen Karma?" You looked around.

"Looking for your knight in shining armor, huh?" Nakamura wiggled her eyebrows, stifling a laugh at the nickname she had given him since the red headed boy wasn't especially famous for his chivalry.

"I saw him looking for you," Nagisa piped in.

"Oh, there he is!" Kayano pointed at someone behind you.

Turning around, you were met with Karma's mercury eyes just a few centimeters from your face.

"You're no fun Kayano," Karma rolled his eyes. "I was gonna scare Miss Goody Two Shoes over here." .
