From the sky or a tree,
from a stream or a lake,
the air can be filled
with the sounds birds make.
In happiness,
distress
or the call to a mate,
the noise that they make
is what they've to state.
Whether a whistle
or a chant
or a cock-a-doodle-doo,
a warble,
a shriek,
a tweet,
or a coo.
Whatever it is
it's their individual sound,
be it high in the air
or down on the ground.
You know when you hear it
part of nature you be
and if you stop a while
then you may see
the owner of the call you hear
and they may even venture near;
so, you'll get to recognise each different sound
and you'll know the birds
as they come around.
