The Maze Runner Fanfic [Newt x Reader]

Chapter 10 - The scorch

You start dreaming. It looks like a memory, but you're not part of it. You're just a spectator. Your younger self is talking to a girl. Teresa. She says she heard about some people who want to destroy W.i.C.K.E.D., The Right Arm. She thinks they live in the mountains. You wake up. It's still early, so you let the others sleep. They are tired too. Meanwhile, you admire Newt's face from your angle. He looks like an angel. My protective angel. You raise your hand careful to not wake him up. He has the fluffiest hair you've ever touched. You accidentally touch his face and he wakes up. He looks at you. You both smile. He leans in and kisses you. A short, morning kiss.

"I know where to go, but we can't talk about it here, they'll wake up." you go out and sit on the sand. The ruined city would look kinda cool if it weren't for the Flare. "I had a memory portrayed like a dream in which Teresa was telling me that there are some people living in the mountains. People who hate W.i.C.K.E.D."

"How do we know these people will take us with them?"

"They take immune kids from W.i.C.K.E.D., they save them. They did it for years. We can prove them we are subjects with the tattoos. Newt, it's our only chance. We can't survive on our own here."

"I will talk to the others. But we have to be very careful, we don't know these people."

After they wake up, Newt tells them about your plan. Minho is skeptical.

"These people have a lot of guns. We have one loaded gun left. What if they randomly choose to shoot us all?"

"Why would they do that? We are Immunes. They rescue people like us."

"Are we? How do we know everyone is immune?" nobody wanted to make eye contact with you. "He didn't tell you, did he?"

"Tell me what?"

"He's not immune. They won't let him in."

Your heart sank. You don't know what to do or say. You can't let them all die with you here, you can't let Newt die alone and you don't want to see him become a Crank.

"Go without us. If Newt won't be there, then I won't be either. Take the food and the car. We will survive as much as we can."

"No way, we are not letting you die here, in the middle of the nowhere."

"Teresa is right. We are not going without you. We can't split after all we've been through. There has to be a middle way."

"That was my only plan, I don't know what else to do."

"I think I know what to do. We have to get back to W.i.C.K.E.D. and help them find the cure."

"We can't go all back there. At least not (y/n) and I'm not letting her here alone."

"That's why only me and Teresa will go. If we really were the favourites, they will welcome us back. We find the cure and give it to Newt."

"What if you don't find it in time? Newt will die, you and Teresa will have no clue where me, Minho and Frypan are and we will wait here, dying slowly while our food resources finish. These are scientists. If they haven't found a cure by now, there is no cure."

"Didn't you say we have to take every shot we have?"

"You know what, fine. Go there, try to find a cure and leave us here. We will see what to do. But there is no way back. We won't be able to tell you where we are, so once you arrive at W.i.C.K.E.D., you are one of them."

"I hope you won't hate us for our decision."

"No, you're trying to save the world."

Teresa and Thomas went back to South. You, Minho, Newt and Frypan go to North.

"What do we do now?" Frypan asks.

"We go to the people from the Right Arm. If they want to welcome us, we go with them. Maybe they have some kind of a temporary vaccine or a solution, I don't know. But we have to try. If they don't want, we leave and try our luck somewhere else."

"Let's just hope they have a scientist with them to tell us what's wrong with your blood, (y/n)."

"And eyes." adds Minho.

"What eyes?"

You concentrate and make your eyes black. Black veins appear on your body and face.

"Holly shuck, (y/n)! You bloody scared the shit out of me!"

You and Minho laugh. It's funny to see people scaring at something you think it's normal. Everyone gets in the car and Frypan starts driving to the mountains. After a few hours, it gets dark. You have to stop the car and sleep. You have easy sleep, so every sound wakes you up. You are sleeping peacefully in Newt's arms when you hear a sound outside. A Crank is scratching your window, trying to get in.

"Guys, wake up." 

Frypan wakes up and sees the Crank. He tries to start the car, but it won't move.

"He broke our tires."

"Lower the window."

"Are you crazy? Why?"

"I have no other choice but to kill him."

Frypan lowers it, so you get a piece of metal you turned into a knife and stick it in his head. The blood sprays you.

"I think I'm gonna throw up."

"We have to go on foot from here. Take what you can and let's leave." you are released that Minho is finally acting like the leader he's supposed to be.

You walk the whole day. The heat and wind make it more difficult to continue. Suddenly, you hear a Berg coming after you. You have to run fast or W.i.C.K.E.D. will find you. You don't really have where to go, you're in the middle of the desert. The ship opens. Some guards start shooting at you with electric shock guns. They shoot Frypan, then Newt and Minho. You go back for them, but they hit you too. It doesn't seem to affect you. Per contra, it makes you stronger. Black smoke gets out of your veins and goes straight to the guards, killing them. I have time to think about that later, now I have to help my friends. You go to Newt, Minho and Frypan and help them stand up. You run to the Berg and kill the pilot. At least you have a conveyance. Frypan closes the door. Minho was the last one hit, so he's still in shock. Newt asks the question everyone wanted to say.

"What just bloody happened, (y/n)?"

"Remember when I told you electricity makes me stronger? That's what it does. Maybe I'll learn to control it by myself one day."

"I'd prefer not to find out."

"Are we going to the Right Arm?" Frypan asks.

"Do you want to stay here any longer?"

"No, I'm just saying that if we have a plane, should we save the other gladers?"

"I forgot about them. Of course, we have to go before they kill them with experiments."
