"Are you okay, miss?" You asked the girl.
"Yeah. Thanks for that." She said. She sounds familiar. You think to yourself. "I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't recorded them."
"Oh that... I was bluffing. It worked though, so that's good." The girl let out a quick laugh and you laughed along with her.You take a look at your phone while you have it out and read the time. "Oh no! It's 7:27! I'm sorry but I have to catch a train. See you later!" You take off done the alley and towards the station. Along with your footsteps, you hear someone else's causing you to turn your head. It's the girl from before. She was following you to the station. Without speaking, you turn your head back around and continue your sprint.
~
You kneel on the floor of the train, taking deep breaths and trying to catch your breath. "Made it!" You mutter. "That was close..."
"You said it." The girl from before was kneeling next to you, just as out of breath as you were.
"We take the same train, huh? Strange coincidence." You mutter, mostly to yourself.
"I know, right?"After getting up off of the ground you offer the girl your hand which she accepts. "Thanks." You both take a seat next to each other on the train. "I still need to thank you for before as well. Anything you want? Let me get you something for helping me."
"Oh no, I can't have you do that. I just helped you that's it."
"'That's it'? Who would know what would've happened if you weren't there? Let me get you something. Please?" She asked with sincerity in her eyes.
"Your name." You say. "That's what I want."
"Shino Asada. You're getting more than just my name. Also, that was cheesy as all hell."
"I know... My name's Y/N L/N. And I don't want anything.""I don't care. You're getting something, like it or not." It was clear anything else you could say wouldn't get through to her, so you sighed in defeat. "That's more like it. What do you like? Books, games, food, anime... Anything you want."
"This won't sit right with me." You reply, deliberately avoiding the question.
"Answer me or I will follow you everywhere you go until I find something that you like. I don't know about you but, having someone follow you isn't exactly comfortable."
"You're joking." You scoff. "You are joking, right?" Either Shino wasn't joking or her poker face was impenetrable. Just to be safe you decide to answer her question.
"Well?"
"I mean..." You think to yourself. What do I want? I have been playing the AmuSphere because of Akira so a multiplayer game might do. But those games are really expensive for teenagers that need to buy their own food half of the time."I'm waiting. What do you want?" Shino was clearly growing impatient.
"I have been getting into Multiplayer games on the AmuSphere a bit recently but those are expensive. So probably not-" Shino cut you off.
"AmuSphere game it is."
"Wait, hold on a sec-"
"So what games are you interested in? RPGs? FPS? Both? There's a game called Gun Gale Online, that's multiplayer. Do you have it?"
"Yeah, my friend gifted me it just yesterday."
"Look at you! People giving you games every day of the week!" Shino joked."If you've got GGO, then... How about a game called Alfheim Online. Do you have that?"
"No. What's it about?"
"A fantasy VRMMORPG, like GGO but you're a fairy."
"Fairy...?"
"I know what it sounds like but it's actually pretty good. You can fly, kill bosses, and do you remember that SAO game? Well, they rebuilt the castle from that into ALO. Don't worry, no one can die in it. "
"Really? I guess that sounds interesting. But you don't have to buy me anything."
"I said I was buying you something so deal with it. Now meet me after school and I'll buy it for you. Or so help me I will come to your house, break your window and throw the game right in your face!"
"Noted..."~
With school ending for the day, you make your way to the school gates with Akira. "What are you gonna do now that you can't go on the AmuSphere?" You ask him.
"I really don't know. I might do something I haven't done in years: Go outside..." Akira jokingly shivers. "I might go play a bit of soccer. You want to join me?"
"I would but I gotta go to the shops with someone."
"What're you buying?"
"Nothing. She's getting me something."
"'She'? Good on you, Y/N. Finally got a girl." He says while nudging your arm.
"It's not like that." You quickly inform Akira of the events that same morning. You arrive at the gate and sit and wait by the wall for Shino, continuing your conversation with Akira. "Really? Sounds like the plot of a game or anime." He said.
"I know right?"
"Although, having a girl follow you... Doesn't sound too bad."
"For you, maybe. But I enjoy my privacy. Can't really enjoy it with someone on my tail every second of the way, can I?"
"I see your point, but I have a counter-argument: she's female.""I can only assume it's me you guys were talking about?" You turn your head and see Shino walking down the path to greet you. Akira turns to you wordlessly, causing you to nod to him, confirming to him this was the girl you were previously speaking about.
"Shino Asada, right?" She nods. "Oh my god, you weren't lying."
"You doubted me?" You questioned.
"I just don't see you as a guy who would tick off buff men."
"Gee! thanks, buddy!" You say sarcastically."Anyway, I need to catch the train, so you two enjoy your date," Akira says while patting your shoulder. You roll your eyes, not bothered by Akira's comment.
"Sorry about him." You apologize to Shino.
"We all have friends like that." Shino laughs. "It's all good."~
While making your way to the video-game store, you and Shino are making conversation about the game you're getting. "I know you gave me a brief description earlier but, can you tell me more about Alfheim Online?"
"Sure thing. ALO is, as I said, a game where you get to be a fairy. There are nine different races: Cait Siths, Gnomes, Imps, Leprechauns, Pookas, Salamanders, Spriggans, Sylphs, and Undines. There's no level system in the game - instead, it's focused on skills and killing other players. And, like most games, you need better equipment to stand a chance against stronger enemies."
"I think I get it. No leveling system though... Might take a while to get used to that."
"It won't take too long, trust me."
"So, what race did you pick?"
"Cait Sith. That race can tame beasts and use them in battle, - although, don't really do that too much - they have really good eyesight, are faster on foot than the other races, and can wall run."
"Wall run?! I've always wanted to do that! Count me in!" You exclaim.
"That's all it takes for you to be convinced? You didn't even hear the other races' abilities..."
"Doesn't matter. Having the ability to run on a wall and take out enemies like that sounds so cool to me!" You were getting giddy just thinking about the trick shots you could pull while wall running."I guess that's your race figured out..." Shino sighs. "Anyway, you're going to need a teacher. Luckily, seeing as you're going to choose Cait Sith, I'll be able to find you easily, meaning I can teach you."
"You don't need to go that far. You're already buying me the game even when I insisted not to. I don't want you to take time out of your schedule for me."
"I've said it before; who knows what would have happened if you hadn't intervened in the alley. This is the least I can do. Oh, but I can't help you today. I'm coaching someone else in a different game."Is she Sinon? You ask yourself. Can't be. It's probably just a coincidence. Her voice does sound similar, though.
"That works out for me as well, I'm also meeting up with someone. Man, my life is full of coincidences." You mutter that last part mostly to yourself.
"Alright then." She responds. After a bit more walking, you both make it to the store. "I'll get the game for you and be on my way." She says entering through the automatic doors.
Following her, you wait for her to find the game and purchase it by browsing some of the games yourself. Looking up you see Shino at the counter writing on a sticky note and attaching it to the game box. She walks towards you and hands you the game. "See you later." She waves farewell while exiting the store.
"See you." You call back before turning back to the game. The sticky note had the name Sinon on it. Okay, not a coincidence.
