Chapter 9 - Waterpark

"That looks familiar..." Akira says. "Ooh, I know! It's from GGO! I didn't expect you to find a swimsuit that resembled your GGO avatar."
"To be honest, neither did I." Shino admits. "I was just walking around with Mrs. L/N when I happened to run into this."

"I don't mean to be rude, but we don't have a lot of time. These rides won't be experienced themselves." You interrupt. Part of you just felt uncomfortable talking about swimsuits, so you attempted to end the conversation.
"He's right," Akira agreed. "Race you to the first ride!" He sprints off, leaving you both in the dust. Not admitting defeat just yet, you both chase after him.

The sun was slowly beginning to set. An orange glow was starting to envelop the park. You were all called back to the car by your parents, informed you were leaving. You did as you were told and left the park in the car.

"Before heading home," Your dad begins. "We're going out to eat at a restaurant. I'm sure everyone is pretty hungry after all of that running about."
"I'm starving!" Akira said.
"As expected. Hungry as always, Akira."

You pull up in front of the restaurant and entered. Your dad and mom went over to the receptionist, imploring you to stay behind in case the restaurant was full.

As they were talking, you tried to eavesdrop on what they were saying, but the restaurant was too noisy to hear anything.

Still focused on trying to hear what they were saying, you see your mom slip the woman behind the counter ¥1000. This caused your suspicion to grow further. Shino and Akira were having a conversation, so they didn't notice. The woman took the money and gave a nod to your parents, then took a look around the restaurant. Your parents come back to meet up with you.

"Hey kids," Your dad greets. "Looks like they found us a few seats. Come on, let's fit down." You all follow the receptionist towards a crowded area and are brought in front of a table with three seats.

"Um, I know I'm not that smart but there's only three seats here." Akira points out, reading your exact thoughts.
"Yes, there are," The woman starts. "As you can see, we're a bit crowded today. Two of you will have to go to a separate table."
"I see," Your mom said. "How about you two go?" She pointed to you and Shino. So this was their goal. They slipped the money to give us two tables on purpose.

"If you would follow me, please." The woman requested. Your mom flicked her hands forward, urging you to follow her. Akira winks at you. Was he in on this too? You sigh and end up tailing the woman with Shino by your side.

Once you sat down at the table, "They planned this out, didn't they?" Shino suspected. You simply nod. "Thought so. I saw your mom give the receptionist some money. Plus, Akira was trying way too hard to get me to pay attention to him." You sigh in response.

Reading the menu, Shino speaks up. "Being at a restaurant like this, It reminds me of last Sunday."
"It really does." Some memories of what happened five days ago enter your mind. The restaurant, the necklace, the bridge. All happy memories.

"You're still wearing the necklace," You notice. Surely enough, the turquoise jewel encased with silver was hanging around her neck.
"Of course. Why wouldn't I be?"
"I don't know... It was kind of cheap, so I wasn't sure if it was a good gift."
"Like I said, it's perfect. The greatest gift I've ever been given." You smile, a red blush growing on your cheeks.
"T-Thanks." You manage to mutter out.

A waiter comes up to ask for your order, which you give to him.

After a couple of minutes of eating, Shino leaves the table to head to the restroom. On her way, she notices your dad get up too. Something's about to happen.

As she leaves the restroom, your dad stops her, causing her to jump out of her skin. "Didn't mean to scare you," He says. "Sorry. Anyway, I would like to speak with you."

He takes Shino a bit farther from the restrooms so they were out of earshot.  "First of all, I'm apologizing for my wife. She didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable earlier when you two were shopping."
"That's alright. I could tell she was just being nice. "

"Second, and this may sound a bit awkward..." He pauses. "Both me and my wife give you our blessings." Shino looked confused. "Listen, we know you like our son, it's completely obvious." Shino's face begins to turn red at this.
"W-What are you talking about?"
"Don't hide it, it's alright. We know you like our son so we just wanted to know that if you two ever started dating or even get married we would accept this and be proud to call you daughter." A deeper shade of red made its way onto Shino's cheeks. "I told you it'd be awkward. I just wanted to say that. We wanted to give this trip to you to show you how we accepted you like family. And maybe try to get you guys closer. But you're a smart girl, you're bound to notice what we were planning."

"That's it. Sorry for taking you away from your meal." He turns to head back to his table. "Before I go," He stops and faces Shino once again. "This is also from us." He takes out two small rings and hands them to you. "Give one to Y/N whenever the time is right." He turns and heads back to the table. The small rings had both each of your names engraved onto them. One with Shino and one with Y/N. Embarrassed beyond belief, Shino heads back to the table.

"You alright?" You ask her. "Your face is a bit red."
"I-I'm fine." She taps the pocket she set the rings in and a wide smile grows on her face.

The sky was starting to grow dark. A pale purple hue overtaking the land. Both you and Shino were exiting the car, as you were on the street you both parted ways from your walk back home from school. Your parents left the car with you.

"Goodbye, son." Your mom wrapped you into a huge hug.
"See you, mom. Thanks for today."
"Aw, look at the little baby," Akira said from the car. You pick up a small pebble and throw it at him in retaliation. Akira was still in the car as his house was further away.

"See you, Y/N." Your dad walked over and gave you a hug that was tighter than your mother's. "Next time we meet, you better have her as your girlfriend." He whispers into your ear. He gives you a pat on the back before turning to Shino.

"Goodbye, Shino. It was a pleasure having you. Call us anytime if you want to do something like this again." He embraces her as he did to you, which made her face turn red in embarrassment. Like he did to you, your dad also whispers something into Shino's ear. Sadly, he spoke so low you couldn't hear what was being said.

Your mother turns to Shino and embraces her too. They both wave and head back inside the car letting you both leave back to your separate apartments.
