The car was passing through a beautiful scenery of the countryside, quite far away from the city and the trio was now on the roads.
"Nope... Klaus. This is not working out. Stop the car", Y/n said. "Why? What happened?", Klaus asked as he slowly stopped at the road side.
"I am feeling completely left behind at the back. It is so boring. So taking advantage of the vintage style car having a front bench seat, I am joining you both in front. You okay with that?", Y/n asked.
"I would love that... But there is no seat belt in the middle", Klaus said. "Oh that's fine. The roads are empty", she said. "Still... It's dangerous", he said concerned.
"Don't worry. I have Five", Y/n said as Five got out of the car letting her in and then he followed her back in. "You have too much trust in Five", Klaus said.
"It works out well every time... most of the time", Y/n mumbled making Klaus chuckle.
"Ready?", Klaus asked. "All good", Y/n said. "Perfect!", he said as he started the car again making them continue their... "unexpected" journey ahead.
"And I thought I was going to be the one feeling left out", Klaus chuckled. "Well... You should thank me. I didn't let you feel like you were a third wheel", she said. "Thanks", he gave in.
"Klaus... Snacks?", she asked holding out some chips making him grab onto it with his free hand. "Thanks... I knew bringing you along was a good idea", he said as she playfully rolled her eyes.
"You want something?", Y/n asked. "What do we have?", Five asked. "Chips... Cookies, apples... That's pretty much it", she said making Five's lips pull into a straight line.
"What?", she asked. "You were asking me as if we had so much to choose from!", he whined. "I am sorry I don't have a wide array of food buffet for you to choose from. It's a car, Five. Work with what you have. This was all I got from the hotel before leaving", Y/n said making Five sigh as he grabbed a cookie.
"Thanks, love", he mumbled. "Yes... You should be very grateful", she said yawning slightly.
"I slept for the longest time in ages yet I am still sleepy right now. Is this normal?", Y/n asked as Five placed his head on her shoulder.
"So am I... I guess its just the sweet feeling of relief... And don't start with "normal" for people like us", Five sighed as he looked out the car window. "True", she mumbled.
"Besides, this actually isn't so terrible", Five said sitting back up. "See? Told you", Klaus said.
"Come to think of it, my whole life I've been under the gun. Missions for Dad, working for the Commission, and Y/n and I... trying to survive the apocalypse. I was always looking around every corner, just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Inevitably Y/n has been going through the same thing as well...", Five rambled.
"You are right... Honestly, it feels like a huge burden... this whole weight of the whole apocalypses and everything we had on our shoulders is finally off and we have nothing to worry about anymore", Y/n said.
"Yeah. It's nice to just breathe", Five added. "Good for you, man. Retirement is suiting the both of you very well", Klaus said.
"So do you still... Are you still getting that weird feeling?", Five asked Y/n softly. "Not really. It was just like a... I don't know. Whatever it was is gone. Never mind", she said.
"If you say so. Oh! Uh... All right!", Five leaned in front getting closer to the dashboard grabbing a folded piece of paper placed on the top of it.
"What is that?", Y/n asked as he unfolded the paper to reveal road map around the State of Pennsylvania. "So, I've circled all the roadside attractions along the way", Five said.
"When did you even get the time to do all this?", Y/n asked. "While you were getting ready to leave", Klaus said. "Where is that Ball of Twine, you keep talking about?", Y/n asked Five.
"Right here. I think we would be close by now... Anyways, we have the Brownsville Big Nickel-", Five started. "I'm not sure we're gonna have time...", Klaus intervened.
"We have all the time in the world now, Klaus. What else are you going to do on a road trip? You see roadside attractions, and monuments on the way", Y/n said.
"Exactly... Oh and honey, you love cakes and pies, so Ricky's Bakery has award-winning pies-", Five explained completely ignoring Klaus. "If you just let me explain-", Klaus was cut off.
"Or there's this Cow Henge... That's it- Come on, don't-", Five was cut off. "Listen to me. Just shut up for two seconds, okay? Just two seconds both of you?... All right?", Klaus asked.
"Okay, I'm all ears". Five said folding the map back as Klaus sighed.
"You know what face you are making right now?", Y/n asked as her eyebrows furrowed. "What face? What are you talking about?", Klaus asked.
"Your face right now is showing you messed up... It is like deception coming off", Y/n said dramatically. "What?", Klaus asked.
"Klaus... Riddle me this. Why are we going to Pennsylvania out of the blue?", Y/n asked as Five looked at Klaus with questioning eyes as well.
"Okay... We are going to Pennsylvania to...find...... my birth mother... Yay!", Klaus exclaimed after a dramatic pause, trying to reduce the tension.
"Excuse me?", Five asked as if he didn't hear him right, his face dropping from an excited to a confused yet angry one. "We what!?", Y/n asked.
"I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry. I just needed somebody to come with me for emotional support", Klaus tried explaining himself. "Oh, emotional support, like a Schnauzer?", Five asked making Y/n try her best to hold in a laugh at the mention of a Schnauzer.
"I knew you wouldn't come if I told you, so what was I supposed to do. Y/n probably wouldn't have joined me as well", Klaus said.
"Maybe... I most probably... would have slept more", she said. "See!", Klaus said trying to prove his point.
"You're goddamn right we wouldn't have come, Klaus. You know why? Because I am supposed to be retired!", Five yelled getting agitated. "I know!", Klaus yelled back. "This was supposed to be a carefree road trip for me and my wife", Five sighed. "Well, it still can be, babe", Klaus said maintaining his cool aura.
"Okay... Five, calm down now, darling. We are here, alright? So we need to roll with it", Y/n said pushing back back making him sit relaxed.
"And you, Klaus. Out of everyone, you picked Five... Great choice on the "emotional support" by the way", Y/n told Klaus as he chuckled. "Hey!", Five exclaimed offended as his eyebrows furrowed. "I was talking about the both of us", Y/n defended herself.
"But you are the best emotional support I have ever known. Just like Ben... Not this one, the old one. Our Ben", he said making her smile. "Thank you, Klaus", she said.
"Don't you dare sweet talk her into this after you literally lied to our faces!", Five said. "I am not! She is amazing!", Klaus said as Y/n shook her head.
"Five... For God's sake, please... calm down", she said making him take a deep breath. But that peaceful moment didn't last long as a light blue sign board appeared on the left side of the road which directed to "Ball of Twine".
"Ball of Twine? Klaus, turn! Ball of Twine! Turn!", Five exclaimed but before Y/n could react, he grabbed onto the steering wheel making Y/n's eyes widen. "What? Five! Five!", Klaus said.
"It is one of the best ones! Come on!", Five said turning the car. "You are going to get us all killed, Five!", Y/n said trying to push him back but the man did not budge.
"Five, we're gonna die!", Klaus said. "I don't care! Let go! You know what? NO TWINE, NO BIRTH MOTHER!", Five yelled as the car finally turned and Five moved back to place.
"I think you literally just shook up my insides. What do you think you- You are heavy!", Y/n took a deep breath. "Sorry", he mumbled.
"Sorry is not enough... Had I thrown up on you... It would have been on you. Not me", she said. "Okay... Don't be so dramatic", Five said slightly rolling his eyes.
"Dramatic? I will show you dramatic, Five Hargreeves...", she mumbled as he sighed somewhat relaxing back on the seat. "Now... How far is this ball of twine?", she asked Klaus.
"Just around the corner I guess", he replied as Y/n felt Five grip on her hand. "I didn't hurt you, did I?", Five asked. "Not really", she said.
"I am okay too, thanks for asking, Five. My limbs are attached as well", Klaus intervened sarcastically. "OI don't care, Klaus!", Five sighed.
"Does the Ball of Twine really mean that much to you?", Y/n asked Five as his hand's grip on her tightened.
"Of course it does... I wanted to see it. It's the only reason I agreed to come to this stupid road trip. How was I supposed to know what this idiot was planning", he mumbled making her smile a bit as she pecked his cheek.
"You are so adorable yet so dumb sometimes".
