I'll Show You Mine

The forest looked dark even though it was daytime. I was with Neptune the cat beastman, Draven the half minotaur, Anastasia the fairy and Nathaira the snake lady.

We were all divided into groups of four, two of the leaders thinking that if we split up we could cover more ground. Damian didn't think it was necessary but due to the majority agreeing he surrendered.

Anastasia, who is a support mage was using her skill [Search]. I was told that support always had this skill to help with the party's search.

I was in the middle of the group, keeping my ears sharp as my bow was in my hands. As a marksman, I would be their last line of defense therefore I was protected.

"Anastasia darling, any sign of these dogs?", Nathaira cooed, her slitted tongue dancing out of her mouth with every syllable. "I haven't felt a drop of movement for the past 30 minutes. I'm certain this area is nothing but pigeons.", the fairy replied, with an obvious vein up her forehead.

I mean I would too if someone was bothering me nonstop.

"If you say that shouldn't we just turn around and report back?", I groaned, throwing my head back. I saw a shadow dart into the trees, blinked twice to check. "We haven't even finished our section of the forest. Don't tell me you're scared Luminesce~ ?", I popped my head back in place, giving Draven a blank look.

"Not entirely, I bet you are. I can feel your feet shaking from here.", I could feel the bottled rage the minotaur was trying to suppress, innocently exhaling just to rile the hothead up.

"Something behind the trees.", instantly everyone was on high alert, Draven pulling out a claymore while I charged my arrows with crystal magic.

Neptune was the most trusted ally, Damian managed to convince Aqilles to pair him up with me. I'm glad he did.

"That's absurd. I felt no movement with the use of [Search].", Anastasia hissed, but she had a tight grip on her grimoire. Cat beastmen have the most sensitive hearing of all races, that's one of the reasons why they are carefully monitored by the royals.

"Not insight. Under the ground.", I still wonder why he spoke like that but that's something I'll ask later. "The ground?  It wouldn't be those dogs, they cannot dig passageways with their size.", Nathaira stated, a theory coming straight into my mind.

"Not the adults. It's the cubs."

The ground shook and around us various holes start to appear. From those emerged white long-furred creatures with their head replaced with some kind of skull. Small horns decorated their head, some had 2 while others had 3.

The cubs snarled while looking at us with glowing eyes, saliva dripping from their teeth. "Ugh! Their stench is far worse than I thought!", Anastasia.. you just had to make it harder..

The cubs growled at her exclamation, eyes trained on her. I pulled my string back, aiming at the three-horned cubs. "[Ablaze]! I'll stomp you under my feet you rascals!", Draven boisterously laughed, charging straight the cubs I was aiming for.

"Hey! Those were mine!" I shouted, frowning before turning to Anastasia. "Draven had thankfully driven the attention away from you, so let's go a little further.", I didn't wait for her response, just picked her up and jump on one of the furthest branches I could reach.

"Stop moving so much!", and stop trashing so much! I placed her down on one of the lowest branches, climbing up a bit further. The tree I chose was one of the trees that had a clear view of the area, with a trunk tall enough for me to get as far as possible.

I pulled my strings back, aiming at the cubs that hadn't moved. Bright cyan colors were absorbed into my arrows, painting them in a dim glow. I calmed my racing heart, aiming at two cubs.

One thing about crystal magic.

I exhaled, one of my fingers slipping from the string.

They deal more damage when the target is far. Perfect for a marksman.

Howls of pain reached my ears, the two cubs having an arrow lodged in their body. I felt multiple eyes search, quickly reloading my bow. "Let's have a little fun, no?", I grinned, aiming an arrow at the one growling from Draven's back.

"[Miniature Spike].", I shot an arrow at that cub, effectively stabbing it with my crystal before it got to Draven. Several other spikes stabbed the other cubs, filling my ears with their pained cries. What whiny dogs.

I rained down more arrows, while the other fighters continued to kill and evade the cubs and Anastasia healing the others and casting shields. Not that it's needed, I got that minotaur's ass covered.

I was impressed by Neptune so far. He wielded a black spear, a blue gem embedded near the blade. It was a mana crystal, an average type I guess by its color. He wielded it like a pro, his footing was not sloppy and his thrust are precise along with his slashes.

I observed he had put enough concentration and training to perfect his speed and agility. With his thigh-length robe I bet he stumbled here and there during training.

When the Nightmare Crawler cubs had finally been demolished, it was already sunset. Anastasia was healing the injuries she couldn't, while I was on the lookout for any others monsters.

While I was at that, I was also collecting the loot from those cubs. Nightmare Crawlers are B rank monsters, their drop would be something valuable of course. The cubs could have the same drops, but with less probability of dropping high grade items.

I glanced at the corpses, feeling a bit bad for killing them. And stealing from their corpse..

Their fur just looks so nice I had to!

"Is everyone alright now? Those creatures were quite the problem.", Anastasia asked, I think it was because of her job as a leader to always check on their teammates.

"We're fine as my hair darling. Now let us rush before the sun disappears!", Nathaira's concern was understandable, it's basically common sense to hurry into civilization before some animals decide to make a buffet out of us.

Just as we were about to move, glowing flaming eyes appeared all around us. I heard Neptune's breath hitch, the feline's ears perked up and his tail stiffened. My eyes widened at his reaction, my muscles tensed as we were surrounded once again.

'Oh dear..'

Archway Flute

Neptune Laurier's weapon. Forged using heat and electric resistant steel, with two mana stones embedded into each end. One of Neptune's brothers who works as a blacksmith forged this out of his own blood, sweat, tears and money.

The spear is resistant to heat and electricity, therefore he is considered immune to flame and lightning attacks. The two stones help with absorbing the flame and lightning attack, turning the magic into energy to its user.
