4 days had passed before we arrived at the location of our quest. Instead of a town or a field, we were sent to an area that was rumored to be cursed with spirits.
The last town we visited was about a half an hour walk from here, a spacious spring area that instead of looking gloomy, looks like it came out of a peaceful era. With flowers blooming everywhere, moss crawling on the shiny stones and translucent water continuously flowed down a river.
"Wynn, go ahead and sc-", I groaned wearily, twirling an arrow between my fingers. I sighed inaudibly slumping my upper body behind him as I buried my face on his shoulder.
Ahem. Curse his tall 5'9 ass..
"Go do your task you sloth!", Linda smacked my head, making our dear leader stumble from the impact. Before he could even turn around I got up and bolted to a random direction.
I could faintly hear Damian scolding Linda. Snickering to myself I stopped to retrace to steps with my eyes before deciding this is far enough.
Taking in a deep breath, I waved a hand in front of me. A mix of wispy black and turqoise flowed from my fingertips, the surrounding area had gotten a bit colder.
"[Arise Naberius] [Crystals Commandment]"
Shadows gathered in an area before me, claws the size of a tiger rose from within.
In a matter of seconds the wispy wolf stood before me, being a fraction taller than what I remembered when we last met.
I looked him up and down, going to his side and comparing my height to him. Yep, he grew taller.
The wolf stayed silent as he observed me comparing my height. He let out a soft growl when I patted his wispy body.
"Hello Naberius. How are you today?", I asked, still patting his wispy fur. "𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐣𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫.", I hummed in response, still petting his wispy fur.
"I have a task for you. Patrol the area around here, preferably around 7 kliks.", I commanded, retreating myself to stand in front of him. "𝐈 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐨 𝐬𝐨 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲.", he bowed his head towards the ground before dissappearing into it.
My face remained stoic, but inside I was shuddering hard. Like- Why am I being called master?! It makes me sound like I own them on a fucking leash! And the way he melted in the shadows give me goosebumps compared to when he zombie crawled out of it!
"Brr...", I shivered, shaking my head to do my task. Right, I have to scout. Damn it.. But it was a good thing I got some skills from killing that alpha woman! Still not gonna try doing that again though..
[Crystals Commandment] - Plants crystals as a tracking device, will alarm the host if the mana is breached.
[Pack Link: Alpha Voice] - Commands a specified group of creatures to the host
[Pettrifying Glare] - Paralyzes anyone who looks in the host's eyes with fear
Pretty dope! Originally instead of [Crystals Commandment] it was [Pack Link: Identify] which instead of being planted or tracked, is to search someone either by scent or habit. But the skill that was originally for wolves had been transfered to a human, therefore being mutated to the human's mana.
Haha I'm so smart!
That was a joke but anyways! I glanced at the patch of glowing blue crystals peeking out of the ground, feeling a thin wave of mana pulsating there.
Fortunately the waves of mana reverbrating from the patch of crystals weren't too noticable, from a C rank adventurer's perpective. A C rank or B rank normal adventurer woukd most likely not feel the mana, but mages who are sensitive to mana are able to.
I just hoping that whaever creature that passes through my invisible border isn't smart enough to realize it.
I planted a few more, some in the trees where I had to shoot arrows to get there, some on suspicious looking dens and caves. When I finished I could feel invisible strings being attached to the stones.
To test it out, I summoned a sword and ran it pass the crystal. The sound of air being cut rang in my ear, as I smiled in satisfaction. I heard a low growl, alarming me to position the swords around me.
I sighed as it turns out the growl was from Naberius. "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐬.", Figured why I haven't been attacked yet.
"Thank you Naberius.", the wolf stayed silent, bowing hus head a little downward. With his head down I saw movement behind him, and only dradpanned seeing a wispy tail wagging enthusiastically behind him.
This is a do. A cute dog rather than a giant menacing wolf.
Abruptly my hair stood up, startling me. I whipped around, eyes quickly observing my surroundings for movement. Nothing out of the ordinary seem to be going around, but for extra precautions I had Naberius scout the area for the night.
Walking back to camp I wearily play with a few floating crystals I conjured. My mana were depleting slower than I expected with how many crystals I've implanted but that's a good thing!
However my hair were still on end, my paranoia building up. Something uncomfortable is slowly rising in my gut.
That sound, breathing. So loudly behind me but when I turned around there was nothing. I could've sworn that I felt air being puffed by my ear.
It's not helping with how I feel like being watched. It may just be a mere animal watching for abrupt movement, but it feels menacing. Like what I've seen my..
Like her gaze, filled with resentment and rage.
Shaking my head to rid of those memories I realize I arrived at our camp. Seeing Linda helping Tristan set up the tent while Damian was preparing something by the fire, it made me smile a tiny bit.
Reminds me so much of my sister.
I wonder how she is today. It's almost been a month since I transmigrated here, or what this world's time is like. For all I know it could juat be hours since my accident, or years.
"Wynn! What are you doing spacing out?! Help us put up the tent!", forcibly snapped feom my inner thought, I dully looked at Linda who had her arms on her hip.
"Alright alright! Just know that you're better helping with my fashion sense than assembling the tent!", I spoke aloud earning an offended gasps and snickers.
