Kirito's POV:
I walked out the door to follow Rika. Her outburst... she wasn't mad at Asuna. Her reasoning wasn't valid. She was mad at me. Everything she pointed out was a reason for me not to like Asuna despite these things happening after our break up. She didn't want us back together. I had to talk things through with her. After all, she was my friend who helped me out too.
"RIKA WAIT!"
"LEAVE ME ALONE KAZUTO!!" She paced faster up the sidewalk not too far from the house still.
I ran and grabbed her wrist, sticking my heels to the ground so she couldn't pull away so easily.
"Please. Just talk to me. I know you're mad at me so just tell me how you feel." Rika's head shook. She didn't want to turn to face me. But after a minute of still not letting her go, her shoulders dropped in defeat. When she faced me, tears were falling down her face.
"... Rika-"
"NO. YOU DON'T GET IT!!"
"Get what?" I kept my tone quiet, she was already upset enough.
" You don't get it, Kazuto. I'm in love with you. I love you more than anyone. You didn't even give me a chance. But you gave her 2? It's not fair! I wouldn't have broken up with you for a simple mistake. I wouldn't have said such awful things or moved on from you. I could make you so happy. I can be your rock. I just don't understand how you could love her and not me?". Her chest heaved a sob afterward. I didn't know what to say. How do you tell someone you just don't like them that way?
"Rika. I don't know what else to say besides that I'm a very headstrong guy. But the one thing I cannot understand is my love for Asuna. Loving her is not a choice for me, I physically couldn't make myself stop. I've loved her longer than I've known you, which maybe isn't fair, but that's how things are. Asuna had every right to be upset at my behavior and she reacted appropriately so I'm not mad at her. And sometimes when you know, you know. Out of all the girls I've met and continue to meet, I just know she's the one I want by my side. But that's not to say you aren't amazing. You are a trusted confidant to me. You're a great friend who's always fought for me and the cause I'm fighting for. I'd like to consider myself someone you can depend on, Rika. Like how I depend on you. But the way you've treated Asuna over a decision I've made, that isn't something I can forgive easily. I want to forgive you." I say with the most kindness I could muster.
"... You think I'm a reliable friend?" Rika whispered and the tears stopped falling.
"I do. I'd like for us to get past this and still be friends. I'd like for you to be friends with my fiancé too." My face was straight, I had to let her know I was serious.
Rika pulled her frown into a smile, bigger tears fell down her face instead.
"I'm sorry, Kazuto. I truly am, for the horrible way I've acted. I still want to be friends!"
I smiled at her change in heart and pulled her into a brotherly hug.
"Come on back to the house. I think you should clear things up with everyone so we can all move past this."
"Ok..." Rika said hesitant, knowing it wouldn't be easy after the mess she made.
We opened the door to the house and snuck back in. The table was flipped back over and the floor had been cleaned to sparkle.
"Hello?" I say seeing if anyone was there, then I heard laughter erupt from the kitchen.
Everyone was standing around laughing, not even noticing Rika and me.
Asuna had on my mother's apron, She bent down to pull a huge pot from the oven.
"TADA! It's my famous stew! It might not be a lot but, it's something for now. I think it needs a little more time though." Asuna's cheeks were rosied in a humble manner.
"Wowwww" everyone ogled together.
"I told mom and dad what happened, they should be coming back later with more food. You are a lifesaver, Asuna," my sister hugged Asuna's shoulders from the side, which made them both blush gratefully.
"Ah-Em" Rika coughed, which turned everyone's attention to us. The mood of the room dimmed quickly at our presence. Asuna quickly turned to the floor.
"You guys," Rika took a deep breath to prepare, " I cannot express how sorry I am for my bad behavior. I was mad at something else and took it out on everyone, especially Asuna. I ruined the beautiful dinner everyone made an effort for. I sincerely apologize."
Klein, Asada, Alice, and my sister's faces lit up as if their disappointment had been reversed. Keiko and Klein went to hug her and pat her on the back.
"Way to go, Kid!" Klein said proudly.
Asuna never turned her head up. Even as person after person went up to accept Rika's apology, her hands stayed on the pot, her eyes never left the tile. I noticed her hands shaking in clenched fists.
"Well frankly, Rika. I don't accept your pathetic apology!" Asuna growled as she threw the oven mitts on the counter.
Nobody moved, shocked by her reaction. Rika looked immediately embarrassed.
Asuna pushed past everyone, even bumping my arm extra hard to push past me. She stomped upstairs to my room, leaving us down here frightened.
