Freya lay on her bed as Niki hummed and took out the flowers and the braids off her hair. She listened to the familiar song that her friend was humming.
The redhead was there but actually not, her mind was back on the boat under the lights of the lantern and the presence of Sapnap. She didn't expect it.
To have trusted and enjoyed the presence of the person she was technically running away from. She didn't know when it happened, but it did, slowly but that was real.
"There. All done." Niki said quietly. Freya sat up slowly and fiddled with her thumbs. She can feel Niki watching her, for the first time in so long, she felt uncomfortable in L'Manberg and with her pink haired friend.
Niki sighed, "What were you thinking?" And there it was Freya thought. She was expecting it, she was dreading it. She didn't want to explain it because she believed that they should have known.
"Freya please. Don't let Wilbur be the one to ask you." Niki whispered. Freya turned to her in shock, "Wilbur?" she asked. Niki nodded and sighed, "But Tommy said-" "Freya." She was cut off by her door opening and the voice of her older brother.
The pink haired young woman sighed again and stood up. She excused herself from the room, she knew how bad the arguments between the two could get and she hated it every time.
Freya stayed seated on her bed as the door closed, leaving Wilbur standing there watching his sister. The silence was suffocating, it was tense and heavy. It wasn't the same comforting and loving feeling the redhead experienced when they were growing up.
She heard the footsteps of her brother and then felt the bed dip. She continued to stare at her feet, "I was worried about you." He finally spoke.
The redhead nodded, "Understandable-" "You don't understand Freya. We were...played." He said slowly in a voice Freya has never heard ever.
She slowly turned to look at him. She saw him with furrowed eyebrows and a clenched jaw, whatever happened when she left clearly was frustrating her brother. She couldn't help but feel guilty.
"What? What happened?" she asked. Wilbur turned to her and smiled sadly, "We- I was played Freya. I thought they meant peace but they planned it." He said vaguely staring straight into her eyes.
Freya gulped, her stomach dropping at every word her brother was saying, "I'm so sorry if I hurt you or ruin your trust Frey. I thought it was the answer but they used your emotions.
"Dream knew you would run. He knew you would leave therefore would leave L'Manberg unprotected and he used that. He attacked us while you were away."
And just like that everything crashed for her. She could not believe it. She didn't want to believe it. Maybe it was because of whatever she built with Sapnap. Oh Sapnap.
Was that all real? Was she played as well? Was she a pawn in their game? She felt betrayed and hurt at the same time.
Wilbur grabbed her hands, "I didn't mean to hurt you Frey. I'm so sorry." He said with a sigh. Freya stared into her brother's eyes. They looked so familiar yet so different at the same time. "But Sapnap-" "He's in on it Freya. He gained your trust so that he could bring you as far as he could so you won't be able to fight for L'Manberg. He used you."
Oh what pain Freya felt. She really thought she had gained a new friend, someone to trust, someone that she knew genuinely. Someone. But it seems Sapnap wasn't someone.
He was the enemy all over again and it broke her to a point that she couldn't even look at the flowers that were once in her hair. It was painful.
"I thought he was different." She whispered. Wilbur gripped her hand and let her lay her head on his shoulder, "We were both played, sister."
And there the siblings sat in silence. Both in disbelief and upset. But what one didn't know was the lies that floated in the air. Oh what lies were fed that moment, but what can they do, it was for the sake of their country.
