returning back to the village, they realized they arrived just in time for dinner. the sully family was just preparing to eat together when they noticed talia and neteyam, waving them over.
but upon nearing the table, talia's heart dropped. next to lo'ak was the one person she couldn't handle seeing right now— or ever.
ixana turned to her with a cold and calculated smile, "don't look so surprised to see me." she said loud enough for the avatar girl to hear.
without responding, she tightened her hold on neteyam's hand as they sat on the opposite end of lo'ak and his leech.
"just ignore her, love. okay?" neteyam whispered to talia as they waited for the food. she nodded and kissed his shoulder in a silent thanks, avoiding the eye contact from across the table.
neytiri and kiri soon came to the table with their hands filled with food. everything was divided and passed out and soon enough everyone was eating and quiet, but the silence was deafening rather than peaceful.
neytiri couldn't hide her emotions and held a scowl on her face as ixana was sat with their family, unsure as to why lo'ak was with her.
jake really only knew whatever his wife explained, wanting to stay out of his kids' loves lives especially after the incident with talia and neteyam.
kiri was pretty good at picking up social cues, but it didn't take a genius to know lo'ak wanted nothing to do with ixana even if he'd said so. she knew something was suspicious so she was going to get to the bottom of it. plus, she loved talia so much more than the clan bully.
and tuk had no idea there was even any tension at the table, her hunger blocking out everyone around her as she ate. she was a kid you didn't want to get between her and her food.
as talia and neteyam ate, he kept a comforting hand placed on her thigh. he glared at his younger brother who looked defeated, like he didn't want to be there. his gaze transferred to ixana who had her usual smug look, her eyes latching onto his as she sent a wink. he narrowed his eyes in return, not backing down which made her subtly shrink in on herself.
"mrs. sully, the food tastes like, so good." ixana cleared her throat and spoke to the mother of the household.
neytiri didn't match the smile on the girl's face, instead keeping a neutral demeanor. instead of replying, she sent a small nod. feeling unsuccessful, ixana switched her focus onto someone else.
"and mr. jake, you must be so great at hunting to get a yerik." she plastered on her fake smile.
jake didn't even hear the girl the first time around, only noticing when neytiri elbowed him. "huh?" he asked, unsure of what happened.
