CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN
PANDORA JESUS
"check her pulse, neteyam." jake told his son as he stood at the front of the helicopter by norm, his eyes trained on the unconscious human laying in the back.
neteyam listened to his father and obeyed diligently, his fingers moving to her neck just under her jawline. he could feel the faintest pulse, as if dancing on the verge of death. he responded back, "it's barely there."
lo'ak still hadn't let go of talia's hand that he held dear to his chest, not wanting to let go ever again. he didn't care how the future panned out except for one thing— that she was by his side. he didn't care about sharing her with his brother any longer, any and all worries about being better than him vanishing as he sat next to her unmoving body. he just wished for her to wake up so they can be together, how it was supposed to be.
"we're here." norm announced as he prepared the aircraft to land on the ground. they were just outside the village and had planned on doing an emergency transfer between bodies, from human to avatar.
neteyam felt he needed to be strong just like his father in this moment, seeing how broken down lo'ak was made his mentality shift so he could focus on getting her help. he wouldn't accept her dying on his watch, never. he would make sure she lived because he couldn't imagine his life without her anymore.
lo'ak whispered down to her just as they landed, "you'll be okay, my sweet talia. we'll see each other again. i promise."
neteyam nudged his brother on the shoulder, "c'mon bro, we need to lift her."
but jake stepped up, "no i'll take her, you two help your mother carry her avatar body and we'll meet back by the sacred tree."
both brothers nodded in agreement, though lo'ak was more sluggish in his distressed state. they followed neytiri just as ordered, leaving jake and norm behind to carry human talia to the tree.
"you better live talia, my boys— my family cares too much for you to leave us. got it? no dying today." jake spoke to talia, or rather himself, as he tried to remain calm.
along the way, mo'at was informed of the current situation and hurried herself to meet the family at the sacred tree along with informing the clan to prepare the ritual.
once at the sacred tree, jake found the rest of his family there already with avatar talia. they rested her in the same place that he once laid, same with his old friend grace, while they underwent the same process. he hoped talia would succeed as he did, rather than follow grace's path.
