Unconditional Love

"Well, I guess we finally got our grandson. You should be happy."

"Brenda, not right now. I am happy regardless. Let's just say goodbye and go to the hospital. June said he would call if he needed me and he didn't call yet. So he may be trying to get everything under control first."

I know she wants to start some shit because we were not at the hospital. But after the shit she already pulled today, she better chill the hell out.

"Layla, I'm so proud of you mama. You got the boy you wanted. I'm sorry we are late. We were waiting on Brody to get out of surgery, but he ended up going back into another one."

Chelsea is here. This can go good or bad.

"Congratulations! Where is Kenneth? I want to congratulate him too."

"Mother, Kenneth is not here, I'll let him know you said congrats."

"What the hell do you mean he is not here?"

"Please don't start. He's at the hospital, Keisha went into labor. They are going to have the baby today."

"You have got to be fucking joking right? Again?"

This is about to be bad. I grab Brenda's arm and try to lead her away. She snatched away from me and turned around and walked towards Chelsea. They both are very hard on their kids but they both will go to war behind them. Kino is walking towards them as well as Randy.

"What the fuck does that mean, AGAIN?"

Brenda is upset, but even if she wasn't, she's no match for Chelsea. Chelsea came straight from the projects and made it out with hard work and determination. She's cutthroat with everything she does.

"It means exactly what the fuck I said Brenda. Your son's no good ass has my daughter out here looking stupid once again. You should have taught him how to be a husband."

"And you should have taught your daughter how to please her husband to make him stay at home. Then he wouldn't be at the hospital expecting another child would he?"

"If your whore of a son knew what good quality was in a woman then he would realize that it's not what is between her legs but what is between her shoulders."

"Yes that's correct, it's her mouth and if she learned how to use it for something other than whining to you all the time he would probably be here celebrating his only child."

What the fuck. Randy steps in and grabs his wife.

"Baby, look at Layla, she's crying and upset. You are hurting her more by making a scene. She was laughing and happy when we came in. Stop this now."

Lays is full on crying at this point. I don't know what happened to make her cry this much. They both said some fucked up shit but it was not enough to make her cry like that. You would think it would have made my stupid ass wife shut the fuck up but no.

"She should be crying. It's because of her being fucking annoying and clingy all day that Keisha might be dead and the baby too. I told your stupid ass to just leave him the fuck alone. He told you that Keisha was stressed and the doctors were doing everything to keep her calm. He told you that you caused her to be more stressed with the calls. But you wouldn't stop would you? If she is dead, that is on you, Layla."

"I didn't call him again. And he is my husband. I should be able to call him whenever I want. Why would she be stressed because I'm calling him? It's not like they are in a relationship. He made a mistake. I am his wife."

Poor Layla is in denial. But let my wife be the one to correct things for her.

"You are so fucking stupid. They are still sleeping together, not just now either. He never stopped Layla. They've been fucking since they were kids. When she got beat and moved in with him, they were fucking and you were babysitting Keith.

Nya wasn't their first pregnancy either. Three months before she got pregnant with Nya, she had a miscarriage. You were gone on one of your little trips. You are so fucking gullible. Kenneth may love you but he's in love with Keisha always has been and always will be. That's why he always chooses her first.

You are dumb and we —"

Before she could continue, I slapped her. I swore I would never put my hands on her again but I have had enough.

"Bitch I am so fucking tired of you running your gah damn mouth. I don't know what has gotten into you. What has this child done for you to be so damn cruel? All she has done is love your ungrateful ass son."

Lays is almost hyperventilating now. Kino and Keli are trying to get her to calm down. I think Tiff is calling the ambulance.

"I have put up with your affairs, I raised your child, but it is never enough. You don't have to lift a finger and everything is provided to you. She's the reason your family was able to move out of the slumps I found your ass in. You think it's okay to talk to her like she's trash. You are ungrateful like your son, but I'm done. I want a divorce."

"Rome."

"Shut the fuck up! You better have a good damn explanation for you son as to why his wife is passed out on the fucking ground. If something happens to her or her child, I promise, I'll kill you myself."

I walk over to Layla and she is completely out. She is breathing but no one knows what's wrong. Lord, don't let anything happen to her or the baby.

"Is what she said true? Is Keisha dead? Is the baby dead?"

Kino is mad as hell. I don't blame him and I don't have an explanation for everything he just heard.

"He just sent a text right before the fireworks started. We were headed out when Chelsea started talking and she just went in. I'm not sure of either of their status right now."

"Rome, go take care of your son. I got my daughter. He's going to need you more than ever. Especially when he finds out that she is having issues too. Stay by his side and keep his damn mama out of his head. He's going to need you.

As soon as Kehlani is able to travel we are going home. Whether she wants to leave him or not, she is. She doesn't deserve this disrespect. I'm sick of it. Me taking her away is the only way I know to keep me from killing your family off."

June was worried earlier that he lost his wife, well now I can clarify it for him. Yes, he has.

"I'm not going to stand in the way. I just hope you will allow me, Tiff, and my parents to be around. It's time to make some changes. Keep me posted on what happens. I'll be there to see her when you let me know."

I leave and go to my car. Brenda is standing outside on the phone. She is crying and my heart is breaking. I fucking love that woman. I always have and I have never had to choose her over anyone. She's too ignorant to understand she was the only one I wanted. I get in the car and I feel guilty as fuck for what I did. I can't turn back now, but I won't let her be stranded. Her car is still at the hospital.

"Brenda, get in the car. I'll take you back to the hospital so you will have your car. Then I'm going to see my son, and you are going to tell him what happened. After that you are going to leave our lives for good. You can call and talk to June when you want but don't let me catch you in his face. I hope it was worth it."

"Rome."

"I don't want to hear it. We are over. You finally have your freedom."
