This has been a very long day. I never imagined this would be the outcome with Keisha's delivery. Honestly, up until this past month everything has been fine. Her BP started to be on the higher side and she complained of pain more, but it only presented as Braxton Hicks and stress.
The baby always checked out fine with the standard tests so there was never a need to do any further tests. She wouldn't allow me to anyway. Any time I offered, she would get better and refuse to 'expose' her baby to unnecessary tests. I believe that the extra stress on Keisha's body accelerated Asia's condition. I'm not blaming her; it's just that when the baby is still inside the womb, then whatever health condition affects the mom, affects the baby in some way.
It does not surprise me that Keisha was under so much stress. Their situation is insane. I've had similar cases where a husband got his mistress pregnant, but never where the husband has catered to the other woman more than the wife. So honestly I've been very confused why she spazzed out each time Kenneth had contact with his wife. He's always there for Keisha.
My wife found out that the nurses would gossip about how he would always show up for each of Keisha's appointments and Layla would be waiting for him to never show for hers. Layla knew they were talking about her but she never showed that it affected her from a distance. If you really looked into her eyes, you could tell she was hurt.
After that day, the only nurse that attends to Layla is my wife. That's why Kenneth didn't know who she was. He never showed up to any of the appointments after that. Really I only recall him coming to two of them, and he left before one even started.
I have spoken to her a few times about the matter to get an idea of her mental health. I thought it had to be taking a toll on her mentally. She stunned me when she said that she knows that one day, it would all be worth it. He would love her the right way and they would be happy like they were before he made the first mistake. Any man would want this woman in his corner.
"Dr. Jeff?"
I look up to see my beautiful wife at my office door. We are always professional until we are in private.
"Nurse Bridges, come in please and close the door."
"I was coming by to see if you are ready to visit Layla. She was moved up to one of the private rooms. Dr. Nicks believes that she was just overwhelmed and exhausted."
"I did look at his notes. It's a great possibility that may be the case. I'm not sure if they have informed her of baby Asia's condition, but since cardiomyopathy can be hereditary, I would like to run some scans to rule out any surprises."
"Okay, I'll have them setup for later today, since it's already after midnight. I know you want to be extra cautious now. Everything will be fine. I've been praying."
"Thanks, prayer is definitely what they need. Keisha should be getting moved back to her room within the next hour. I need her on-duty nurse to keep check every two hours until morning to make sure there is no bleeding. Her body has gone through a lot of trauma today, so it will be hard to predict if something else will arise.
She will stay on a slow drip to help with her blood pressure until later today. I expect it to keep her asleep until we wake her. If she wakes before then I want to be notified asap. She can have visitors in the morning but only two at a time. If anyone upsets her then it stops. That includes Kenneth.
Nurse Kaidence should take over her care first thing in the morning since she is familiar with the situation. I am assuming that you will want to be assigned to Layla's care?"
