Chapter Sixty-Two - Kenneth

She frowns up, but I don't give a fuck.

"That does not seem fair."

"Key, it does not concern you. The only thing you should be focusing on is getting better and our daughter who is upstairs fighting for her life or did you forget?"

"I hate when you dismiss me like that. If we are supposed to be a real family now, you have to include me in things."

Dr. Jeff must still have her on the wrong fucking medicine.

"When we are married, then I will include you in my decisions. Until then, nothing changes."

My mom walks into the room, and Key stops talking and avoids eye contact with her. At least she shut the fuck up.

"Hey mama. How are you?"

"I'm good, baby boy. How are you?"

I can tell that my mama has probably been crying today. She did a good job on her makeup, but her eyes are telling everything.

"I'm excited to see Asia. Right now, nothing else really matters to me."

I'll ask her about that later. There's a knock on the door and Nana, Keith, my grandpa, and Claudia walk in.

"I'm glad y'all made it before they came to get us. Where's Pops and Nya?"

"They are coming up with Tiff and Aiden."

I'm still pissed at Tiff. If she knows what's best she'll be on some of the same bullshit Key suddenly found and shut the fuck up and stay out of my way. I'm putting my hands on her ass if she gets out of line. She walks in with Aiden and my dad. Nya is in her grandpops arms like always, talking his head off. He probably does not even know half of what she is saying.

"Dada, momma!"

She screams and my dad puts her down so she can run to me. I picked her up and kissed all over her face, she started laughing. I walk over to Key, and let her give her kisses too.

"Ny, don't forget that momma is still hurt okay? She can't hold you. You have to be a big girl."

"Kay."

"Bud, you want to kiss momma?"

He looks in her direction for a few seconds then slowly walks over. He's tall enough for her to lean over some and kiss him. Kaidence walks in after.

"I need everyone to step out for a second, for me to help Keisha get dressed and in the wheelchair. It won't take long, then we will be on our way."

I'm still holding Nya, and not really fucking with her right now, but I ask.

"You need me to help you, Key?"

"No, we are good nigga. I keep telling you to stop helping. It's best that she starts doing as much as she can on her own anyway. It will help her muscles relax and she won't have to strain once she goes home."

I walk across the hall to the waiting room with everyone else.

"Where's LayLay? She's going to miss seeing Asia."

I wasn't expecting that question so soon.

"Bud, she's not coming."

"Why not? She's family too."

She was until this morning.

"Keith, your dad said she's not coming, so leave it at that."

Grandpa does not play. He loves the fuck out of all of us but he will be the first one to kick our ass.
