Chapter Sixty-Two - Kenneth

"I'm sorry Grandpa. I just miss her sometimes."

Everyone looks at me. I know, I'm the fuck up who caused all this pain. I sat down and put Nya in my lap.

"Bud, come here. I know you want to see Lay, but she's not going to be here today. Moving forward you won't be seeing much of Lay, but you can always call her anytime you want to . I'm going to try to make sure that you can see her when she is available, okay?"

He doesn't need any more details than that.

"She got another project? She said she was gon' wait until school was out so that I could go with her."

"Me too. I go too."

Damn, how do I tell my babies that's not gon' happen. I look at my dad, and he turns his head like he doesn't know I'm asking him for help.

"Listen, we will talk about it more, after we see Asia. Aren't y'all excited to see your sister?"

They both say yes, but Bud is still looking sad. Nya grabbed his face and gave him a sloppy kiss.

"Now all better Bud."

"You put all that spit on my face, but it's all better. Thank you."

This is what I like to see. She annoys the shit out of him but she always gets her way. It used to be that way with me and Tiff. Kay knocks on the door to let us know that we are ready to go.

Key had put on pajamas. I guess she's clear to move around now. We made it to the area where we will be able to see Asia. We won't be able to touch her, but we will get close enough. He won't give us any updates while the kids are in the room.

"Good evening, everyone. I'm Dr. Reed. I have met a few of you, but I see some new faces. I'm one of the doctors in charge of Asia's care alongside Dr. Matthews. He should be here shortly. Even though you won't be able to have direct contact with her, please go ahead and wash your hands and sanitize. The nurses will help you into your protective gear."

Everyone does as asked and we get on the protective gear. Nya thinks she is a doctor now, and went to her Grandpops arms instead of mine. He has her so damn spoiled. Just like the last time, he gave the nurse his burner phone for her to sanitize and use to take pictures.

"It's nice to see all of you. I'm sorry I was late. I had a family matter of my own to deal with. Please excuse my tardiness. I'm not going to rush you guys, but I wanted to be available to answer any questions if you had any. However, Dr. Reed is more than qualified to answer anything."

He looks at his watch and he seems to be a little anxious. Maybe he already found out about Lay. I hope nothing has happened to her. I look at my dad and he shakes his head letting me know nothing happened.

"We can discuss everything at a later time, or speak with Dr. Reed. I rather not talk around the kids anyway."

"We understand. I will let you all know that she's having a great day. She must know you all are stopping by to see her."

That's music to my ears. At least one thing can go right today. I look at Key and she seems really nervous.

"We are ready to begin. We don't want her exposed for too long, even though there is no contact, we still have to be careful. She is still in a closed incubator. You guys can go in four at a time. The siblings can go with mom and dad. Right before she goes back to NICU, we can do one big family photo."

I look at Key, and it looks like she is about to have a panic attack. Brody must have noticed too.

"Nurse Kaidence, why don't you and Nurse Ally take mom to the other room to have a moment to rest. She can be one of the last ones to visit."
