XIX. Departure

After a few minutes, you shot your eyes open and walk towards your desk, getting the papers you worked on whole day and night even though you have just recovered. As you grab the papers on your desk, your eyes incidentally landed on a picture frame that is on your desk, a smile creeping out of your face.

It was your picture with them.

A part of your own self.

A part of your life that you should be thankful for.

Your eyes still on the picture, sudden thoughts of your happy memories with them flashed inside your head, the rain suddenly falling down outside, like your tears that are now rolling down your cheeks.

You quickly wiped it and wore the greatest smile you can give...

...the last smile you may be able to give him.

"I better go," I cheerfully muttered to myself as I walked outside my office and is now heading towards his room, my heart beating fast as I drew near my destination.

No, (Y/N). You should do this.

Now sighing exasperatedly, I waste no time and gave a light knock on his door, now hearing footsteps coming.

When he opens the door, I never failed to see a bandage on his forehead, my hand naturally trying to check on his injury, "W-what happened—"

Before I could even touch him, he eventually shoved my hand away and averted his eyes on me, now seeing his hand held.

"Give me the papers," He uttered, making me give him the papers as I still worry about how he get those injuries.

"Good. Now go."

"W-wait Erwin—" Without hearing me out, he closed the door right in front of my face, like he's been talking to a piece of air bag a while ago.

"Erwin," I called as I knocked again, the footsteps on the other side of the door were abrupt and like, stomping ones. When the door swung open, he gave me a frown right at my face, telling me to go away.

"Erwin I—"

"Just...go back to your room, (Y/N). I'm not in the mood to deal with someone like you," He sighed as he closed the door again, my heart starting to drop because of what he had said.

Someone like...me?

Snap out of it, (Y/N). Do it already.

"E-Erwin," I tried to call again, but this time, I was only answered by silence. So I guess he's simply, ignoring me.

"I-it's fine here outside. I really need to tell you this tonight," I talked on the door like an idiot, silence still followed after.

"W-well, you see...I remembered that it will be y-your birthday tomorrow."

"..."

"I...just want to wish you a h-happy birthday, that's all," I uttered, putting up a smile again.

I heard abrupt footsteps coming and suddenly, the door swung open, revealing an angry Erwin, making me move aback.

"Oh! So now you care about me, (Y/N)? What a joke," He uttered in sarcasm, my eyes preventing the tears to fall.

I never thought of not caring for you, Erwin.

I didn't respond back because I'm really having a hard time preventing my tears to fall. My heart cannot take it any longer, but I have to, for his sake.
