Your character discovers a biotech secret. What is it?

Calli sat in the shell of the once great laboratory staring at the research in front of her. It was a stone from Ochera. Living stone. She was familiar with the notion that there were at least two souls in existence that were made of this "living stone" but no one previously understood it. They assumed it was just a trait of the gems. Somehow. But the "somehow" didn't sit right with her. She needed an explanation. For science and for curiosity's sake. And now here it was. Right in front of her. Stone that was alive. Something woven into the very DNA of the stone and the gems that possessed it. A piece of genetic coding that allowed this stone to flex and move just as much as it lived and breathed. In the wrong hands, this was a dangerous weapon. In the right hands this could save lives. In her hands it was as good as safe until someone would try and come to steal it. That much she knew. Moonstone's greatest secret needed to stay secret. At least for a while longer. She wasn't sure the general population was ready for such information. She'd report her findings to the healers from District 9 and with any luck, take this magnificent specimen of living stone back to the foreign moon in which it came from. A place pretty safe from anyone who could use this for evil.
