Since Millie was close to have her baby, Moxxie brought her to Wrath, so she could give birth in the house where she grew up.
"Seems like yesterday that you were chaising snakes in the fields" Millie's mom caressed her head while her daughter was laying on the bed.
"Mom, stop. You'll make me cry" .
Sally May and Moxxie returned with everything they needed.
"Okay. We have towels, kitchen tongs and the family bucket. Did you know the placentas of six generations of pregnant women fell into this?" Sally May showed the bucket to Moxxie.
"Wait!" Blitzø stormed into the room "You forgot Twinkle the horse" .
He was talking about an old toy he was gifted when he was born.
"Thanks, Blitz. But shouldn't you keep it for when Loona becomes a mom?" Millie asked.
"Fuck you, Millie. I'm not going to subject my body that" Loona replied.
"Found it!" Millie's dad found their family photo album.
After the baby was born, they were going to take a picture all together, just like they did when Millie came to their underworld.
Millie gave a look at the pictures.
"You looked like an angry potato, Mills" Sally May laughed.
In some pictures where Millie was a kid, she already had her left eye covered by hair.
"I thought you keep your hair like that because you never grew out of your emo fase" Blitzø said.
Millie half-smiled.
"I like it. It makes her look mysterious~" Moxxie moved his eyebrows suggestively.
"Calm down, you wild horse" Loona pushed him and laughed with the others. They weren't the only ones looking at old pictures.
Octavia was turning the pages of her family's album, with her parents sitting beside her.
"You looked so much like me when you were little" Stella showed a picture of herself to make a comparison.
"Why were you trying to set your dog on fire, mom?" Octavia asked.
"Because she took my cookie" Stella answered.
"Yes. You've always hated when someone got too close to what belongs to you" Stolas looked at her with annoyance.
"But I've grown to forgive those who wronged me. Haven't I, Stolas?" Stella glared at him.
They were arguing in a strange way, but Octavia still felt bad about it.
Before going to bed, the princess got her hair brushed by her personal maid.
"I'm worried for my parents, Stephanie. I've never seen them argue before" .
The woman reassured her that all married couples fought from time to time.
"Perhaps they should talk about their problems with someone" Stephanie was talking about a marriage counselor, but Octavia misinterpreted.
She thought her parents needed to talk with someone who knew them and could convince them to make peace.
Looking among her family pictures again, Octavia found one of Stella and her older brother.Millie woke up in the middle of the night.
"What's wrong, honey? The contractions?" Moxxie asked.
She assured that she just needed to use the bathroom.
Once Millie was in front of the sink's mirror, she moved the hair that covered part of her face, exposing the white scar on her left eye.
"Who did that to you?" .
Loona was at the bathroom door.
"Shit, Loona. Why are you awake?" Millie quickly covered her eye again.
"I heard your light elephant steps. What happened to your eye?" Loona questioned.
Millie sat on the closed toilet seat to explain how things went. When she was seven years old, she went to the forest with her siblings and got lost. She was scared, but at least she had the jackknife she stole from Timothy.
Looking for her way home, Millie found a young yet dangerous manticore. The beast attacked her and gave her that scar.
"So you slayed that manticore and brought the head home as a prize, right?" Loona smirked.
"No. I was so scared that I. . . I ran away" Millie confessed "From that day I've kept my eye hidden, so nobody can ask me how I got this scar" .
"Millie, there's nothing to be ashamed of. You were just a kid. I'm sure you'd absolutely kill that manticore today" Loona said.
There was a spark in Millie's eye.
Loona saw her expression changing and arrived to the same conclusion.
"Are you fucking nuts!?" She yelled.
Moxxie heard her and ran to the bathroom, to see what was going on. Both women pretended like everything was fine. The next day, Blitzø and Moxxie were outside the farm with Millie's dad and her siblings.
They were all holding a gun.
"Our family tradition wants that the father of the baby brings home a pray hunted by him. So the mother can eat it and gain its strenght!" Millie's dad explained.
"Your traditions are so beautiful" Blitzø almost cried.
Craig put Moxxie on a horse, and once they went hunting, Loona knocked on the door of Millie's room.
"Sorry for bothering you in your last moments of childless freedom. I just wanted to make sure that you're okay" .
"Of course I am" Millie was reading a book on her bed.
"Good. Because I was afraid our late-night chat gave you the idea of facing the beast that gave you that scar" Loona said.
Millie told her not to worry.
"I'm not a midwife, but I think fighting a wild manticore wouldn't be healthy for you or your baby" Loona laughed.
"You're right. You're not a midwife" Millie hid her face behind the book.
After Loona left the room, Millie went to drawer where she kept her favorite dagger.
She was determinate to finish what she left pending.Millie got out of the house, making sure her mom didn't see her, and she used her dad's truck to reach the forest.
On her way, Millie felt a strong pang but she ignored it.
When she went into the forest with her dagger, Loona came out from under the empty bags that were on the truck.
She knew Millie was lying while they were talking, so she decided to follow her.
Millie found some lion footprints in the mud: the manticore was close.
She felt another pang and this time it was stronger.
"I can't run away. . . Not again" Millie kept going deeper into the forest.
She found an adult manticore resting outside a den.
The animal raised its human-like head when Millie got closer.
"Hello, old friend. Remember me?" The woman uncovred her eye.
The manticore swinged its scorpion tale to throw poisonous spikes at Millie and she slid on the ground to dodge them.
Then Millie ran towards the beast, which jumped on her and let out a scream when Millie used her dagger to stab its belly.
While she was watching the manticore slowly bleeding out, Millie realized how stupid she was for wanting to take revenge on an animal that was just acting like one.
She decided to finish the manticore -At least it would stop suffering-
Millie wanted to go back home, but the contractions didn't let her walk much further.Loona was able to find Millie thanks of her loud screams.
Even Moxxie, Blitzø and the others heard them from afar.
"Resist, Millie. I'm taking you back to the farm" Loona wanted to carry her to the truck.
"There's no time!" Millie handed her the dagger and told her to save her baby.
"No! You can't gived up in now! You have to tell this baby how you slayed a manticore!" Loona openned Millie's legs and told her to push.
Millie screamed and pushed at the same time.
Then Loona cut something with the dagger.
"Millie!" Moxxie and Blitzø arrived where the two women were at.
Millie looked exhausted, but she was okay.
Loona cut her own tail to keep the baby warm with it.
"Moxxie, come to meet your daughter" Millie said with a soft voice.
Moxxie gently held their baby.
"Hello, baby girl. I'm your dad" He was crying of happiness.
Blitzø hugged Loona for how proud he was of her.
"How are we going to name her?" Moxxie asked to his wife.
"Maddie. Maddie Loona" Millie looked tenderly at Loona and her ears went down because she was moved by that choice.
