The cold, desolate expanse of Calamore stretched endlessly before them, a frozen wasteland blanketed in snow.
The wind howled through the barren landscape, sending shivers down the spines of the Cybersquad and their allies, despite the winter gear Motherboard had provided.
Matt shivered beneath the layers of insulated gear, stuffing his gloved hands deeper into his pockets. No matter how many environments he had explored, nothing quite compared to the relentless cold of this place.
“Man, this place makes Antarctica feel like a tropical paradise,” Chris remarked, rubbing his arms for warmth.
“Good thing we came prepared,” Jackie said, adjusting her scarf.
Ahead, a massive cave entrance loomed, its mouth lined with jagged icicles, resembling the fangs of a frozen beast. According to Motherboard, this was their best lead for finding the first crystal. The weight of their mission pressed on them as they stepped forward, their boots crunching in the snow.
Inside, the cave opened into a breathtaking world of shimmering ice and vibrant crystals. The walls refracted light in dazzling colors, painting the cavern in shifting hues. Towering stalagmites and stalactites created a natural cathedral of frozen beauty.
"Whoa… talk about a hidden gem!" Matt said, his voice echoing softly through the cavern.
"This place is incredible," Inez agreed, staring at the glimmering formations around them.
"It certainly is," Dr. Marbles said, his tone both fascinated and serious. "The crystal we seek should have an unusual energy signature. But the sheer number of crystals may interfere with detection.”
"Maybe we should split up," Digit suggested. "Cover more ground, find it faster."
Chris hesitated. "I don’t know… this place is massive. What if we get lost?"
"We’ll meet back here if anything happens," Inez reassured him, pointing to a distinct rock formation. "As long as we stick to our paths, we should be fine."
Matt nodded, switching on his flashlight. "Then let’s move before Hacker figures out we’re ahead of him."
With that, the group dispersed, each exploring a different tunnel.
As Matt ventured deeper into the cave, the glow of his flashlight danced across the icy walls. The deeper he went, the quieter it became—almost eerily so.
Then, something caught his eye. A faint flicker of light pulsed in the distance, different from the crystal reflections. His curiosity piqued, he followed the glow.
The tunnel widened into an astonishing chamber, unlike the rest of the cavern. Instead of rough ice and rock, the walls were smooth, carved stone, as if the place had been built rather than formed naturally.
In the center of the room, a massive crystal staircase spiraled upward, shimmering like glass. At the top, a pedestal bathed in a soft, ethereal glow stood waiting.
Matt’s heart pounded as he ascended the staircase. When he reached the pedestal, he gasped. Resting upon it was a striking red, rhombus-shaped crystal, its surface pulsating faintly as if alive.
"Well… this is either really good or really bad," Matt muttered under his breath. With careful hands, he lifted the crystal from the pedestal.
“Gotcha,” Matt murmured, stepping forward. The moment his fingers brushed the crystal, a soft hum vibrated through the air.
A sudden whisper, almost like distant voices, stirred the silence. He hesitated, but when nothing dangerous happened, he carefully placed the crystal into his backpack.
