As the bright flash of light faded, the Cybersquad found themselves surrounded by towering oak trees, their leaves rustling in the breeze. But something about this place felt… unnatural.
"Whoa! Where are we now?" Matt asked, looking around in amazement.
"I don’t know," Stewie muttered, crossing his arms. "But if I had to guess, I’d say we’ve landed in some sort of… blocky universe."
"What makes you say that?" Peter asked.
The answer was all around them—everything, from the trees to the clouds to the animals, was made of cubes. Even the ground beneath their feet was perfectly square, giving the whole world a strange, artificial look.
A few feet away, a sheep wandered into view. Its stiff, blocky body and pixelated face made it look more like a toy than a real animal.
"Are we even supposed to be here?" Jackie asked, kneeling down to touch the grass. It felt soft but strangely uniform, like fabric stretched over a solid surface.
"I don’t know," Matt admitted, scratching his head. "But one thing’s for sure—we’re not gonna find the Third Crystal just sitting around. We need to figure out where it is and fast."
Despite his determined tone, a heavy guilt gnawed at him. He kept replaying what had happened.
The RED Team were ambushed by Mr. Big and Tobey McCallister, their massive robots overpowering them. The Cybersquad had been forced to watch, unable to help. And now, their friends were gone.
Matt clenched his fists. This was his fault. If he hadn’t suggested investigating that fortress, maybe they’d still be free. Maybe WordGirl wouldn’t be hurt. Maybe Digit’s propellers wouldn’t be broken.
"Hey, Matty, you okay?" Digit asked, noticing his friend's troubled look.
"I’m fine," Matt muttered, though his voice wavered.
"Matt," Inez said gently, stepping closer, "what’s wrong?"
"Well..." He sighed, his shoulders sagging. "If I hadn’t suggested going to that fortress, Soldier and the others wouldn’t have been captured. WordGirl wouldn’t be injured. And Digit… your propellers wouldn’t be broken." His voice cracked as he spoke. "Because of me, they’re gone, and we just stood there and let it happen."
A heavy silence fell over the group.
"Matt, none of this is your fault," Martin said firmly.
"Yeah," Peter chimed in. "And so what if it is? Sitting here feeling bad about it ain’t gonna help!"
Matt’s frustration boiled over. "But we didn’t do anything! We just stood there!" His voice shook, and his eyes filled with tears.
Digit moved closer. "Look, Matty, I get it. You feel responsible. But blaming yourself won’t fix anything. What we can do is stay focused and make things right. Together."
"He’s right," Inez said. "We always get through tough times because we stick together. We’re not giving up now."
Matt looked around at his friends, seeing the determination in their faces. Slowly, he wiped his eyes and took a deep breath.
"I just… I don’t want to lose anyone else," he said quietly.
"And you won’t," Jackie promised. "We’re going to bring them back, all of them. But we have to stay strong."
Matt nodded, the weight of guilt lifting just enough for a spark of determination to return. "Okay. Let’s find those crystals and save the multiverse!"
