The next day at school, Y/N was still feeling the sting of the previous day's emotions. She'd tried to keep her head up and act normal, but the tension between her and Oikawa was like a thick fog she couldn't shake. She had spent the entire night replaying the scene at the gym, and it didn't help that every time she saw Oikawa, her heart did its usual awkward dance.
In the morning, Y/N was sitting in her classroom, her textbook open but her mind wandering. She couldn't concentrate on the lesson, her thoughts drifting back to Oikawa and the confusing mess of her feelings. Just as she was about to give up on understanding the quadratic equations in front of her, her phone buzzed with a message from Himari.
♫
Himari: "Hey, are we still on for lunch? I need to hear all about what happened yesterday!"
Y/N sighed and texted back, agreeing to meet her friend. The distraction was welcome, and she found herself looking forward to catching up with Himari.
At lunchtime, Y/N found Himari already waiting at their usual spot with a knowing grin plastered on her face.
"Well, well, if it isn't my favorite drama queen," Himari teased as Y/N sat down. "You still look like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. Did Oikawa do something terrible like forget to smile at you or something?"
Y/N rolled her eyes, though a smile tugged at her lips. "No, nothing like that. It's just... complicated."
Himari's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Complicated? Like what? Are you two in a secret relationship or something?"
Y/N snorted, shaking her head. "No way. It's not that simple. I mean, he's just... different. But I don't know if he feels the same way."
Himari gave her a sympathetic look. "You know, sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith. If you like him, then you should let him know. You never know unless you try."
Y/N considered this for a moment, her mind swirling with the possibilities. "I guess. It's just... what if I'm reading too much into things? What if he's just being friendly?"
Before Himari could respond, Oikawa appeared at the cafeteria entrance, scanning the room. His eyes met Y/N's, and he waved, making his way over with that characteristic confident stride of his. Y/N's heart did its usual flip-flop, and she tried to look casual as he approached.
"Hey, Y/N! Hey, Himari!" Oikawa greeted, plopping down at their table with a wide smile. "Mind if I join you?"
"Of course not!" Himari said brightly, giving Oikawa a playful look. "We were just discussing the epic saga of Y/N's love life. Care to weigh in?"
Oikawa raised an eyebrow, looking from Himari to Y/N with an amused expression. "Oh, really? I didn't know I was part of such an epic saga."
Y/N's cheeks turned pink as she shot Himari a warning glance. "Don't listen to her. She's being dramatic. We were just talking about the usual stuff."
Oikawa laughed, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Well, it's good to know I'm part of the 'usual stuff.'"
As they ate, Oikawa effortlessly shifted the conversation to lighter topics, regaling them with funny anecdotes from practice. Y/N couldn't help but laugh at his stories, the earlier tension melting away with each chuckle.

As Y/N, Himari, and Oikawa were laughing about one of his hilarious practice stories, the cheerful atmosphere was abruptly interrupted by the arrival of Rin and her entourage. Rin, the school's most popular girl and known for her flirtatious antics, sashayed over to their table with a confident air, her group of giggling friends trailing behind her.
