A few days had passed, and Y/N found herself increasingly frustrated. Every time she tried to approach Oikawa, Rin seemed to be lurking nearby, always ready to intercept. It was becoming a recurring theme: Y/N would spot Oikawa from a distance, muster up the courage to walk over and talk to him, but then Rin would appear out of nowhere and start chatting with him, leaving Y/N standing awkwardly on the sidelines.
To make matters worse, Oikawa had been incredibly busy with volleyball practice. The team was preparing for an important match, and their practices were longer and more intense than usual. As a result, their study sessions had been put on hold. Every time Y/N and Oikawa crossed paths in the school corridors, it was just a quick exchange of smiles and waves before Rin and her entourage swooped in. Y/N tried to remain composed, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the jealousy simmering inside her.
One evening, Y/N was at home, scrolling through Instagram and idly watching cat videos to distract herself. She was just about to click on a particularly adorable video of a kitten trying to climb a tree when her phone buzzed with a new message.
Opening it, she saw it was from Oikawa.
Oikawa💙: "Hey Y/N, I was thinking of coming over for our study session today. Is that okay?"
Y/N's heart skipped a beat. She stared at the message, her brain momentarily freezing. Oikawa was coming over? After days of not having any quality time together and dealing with Rin's interference, this felt like a small miracle.
Realizing she had to act quickly, Y/N sprang into action. She looked around her room and gasped at the mess that had accumulated over the past week. Books were scattered everywhere, and her desk was buried under a pile of notes and random objects. "I can't have Oikawa see this!" she muttered to herself.
She frantically began tidying up, shoving textbooks into drawers, quickly straightening up her desk, and hiding the evidence of her snack-eating habits under her bed. At one point, she knocked over a stack of papers, and they went flying like confetti. "Oh no!" she exclaimed, scrambling to gather them.
In the middle of her chaos, her mom walked in with a curious look. "Everything okay in here? You seem a bit frantic."
Y/N, with a slightly frazzled expression, gave her mom a pleading look. "Oikawa's coming over for a study session! I need to clean up before he gets here!"
Her mom's eyes twinkled with amusement. "Well, I guess I should get out of the way then. Just make sure you don't stress too much. It's just a study session."
After a final quick sweep of the room, Y/N sat down, taking a deep breath. Just then, a knock echoed through the house. Y/N's heart raced as she jumped up and raced to the door, almost tripping over her own feet in her hurry.
She flung open the door, and there stood Oikawa, holding a bag slung over his shoulder and a cheerful smile on his face. His eyes lit up when he saw Y/N. "Hey, Y/N! Ready for some studying?"
Y/N, feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement, forced a smile. "Uh, yeah, come on in. I, uh, just finished cleaning up."
Oikawa stepped inside, glancing around at the now-immaculate room. "Wow, it looks great in here! I'm impressed. Did you do all this just for me?"
Y/N blushed slightly, rubbing the back of her neck. "Oh, not really. I was just... tidying up."
They moved to the desk, where Y/N had managed to set up some snacks and study materials. Oikawa sat down and started pulling out his own books and notes.
"So, how's practice been?" Y/N asked, trying to sound casual as she sat across from him.
Oikawa's face lit up as he talked about the upcoming match, his enthusiasm making Y/N smile despite herself. "It's been intense. We're really gearing up for this one. I've barely had time for anything else."
Y/N nodded, genuinely interested. "That sounds tough but exciting. I'm sure you'll do great."
As they started going over their study materials, Oikawa was his usual charming self, and Y/N found herself relaxing in his company. They chatted and laughed between studying, and the awkwardness from before melted away.

After they finished studying, a thick silence settled between them, filling the room with an unspoken tension. Y/N fidgeted with her pencil, unsure of what to say. The air felt heavy, and she could feel her heart pounding in her chest.
Oikawa leaned back in his chair, glancing around the room as if searching for a way to break the silence. Y/N could sense he was just as unsure as she was, which only made the silence more unbearable. Finally, unable to take it any longer, she decided to ask the question that had been nagging at her for days.
"So... um, Oikawa," Y/N began, her voice hesitant, "what's the deal with Rin? I mean, she's always around you."
Oikawa looked at her, surprised by the sudden question. He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Oh, Rin? Yeah, she's been on my nerves lately. Sometimes she shows up at practice and shouts louder than the other fangirls. It's... kind of annoying, to be honest."
Y/N chuckled, trying to mask the relief she felt at hearing that. "I can imagine. Must be hard to focus with all that noise."
"Yeah," Oikawa agreed, giving her a small smile. "But it's not just that. She's been really pushy lately. It's like she's always trying to get my attention, even when I'm not interested."
Y/N's heart skipped a beat, and she bit her lip, debating whether or not to ask the question that had been eating at her for so long. She decided to go for it, keeping her tone as casual as possible. "So, do you, um... do you like anyone?"
Oikawa's eyes met hers, and for a moment, he seemed taken aback by the question. Then, his expression softened, and he leaned forward slightly, his gaze never leaving hers. "Actually... yeah, there is someone."
Y/N felt her heart leap into her throat. She tried to maintain her composure, but the tension in the room seemed to double. "Oh?" she managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper. "Anyone I know?"
Oikawa didn't answer right away. Instead, he looked down at his hands, as if gathering his thoughts. The silence stretched on, each passing second making Y/N more anxious. Then, finally, Oikawa spoke, his voice soft and sincere.
"Yeah, you do know her," he said, lifting his eyes to meet hers again. "It's... it's you, Y/N."
The words hung in the air, and for a moment, Y/N couldn't breathe. She stared at him, her mind racing to process what he'd just said. Was he serious? Did he really just confess? Her heart pounded so loudly in her chest she was sure he could hear it.
"You..." she started, but her voice caught in her throat. "You like me?"
Oikawa nodded, a small, nervous smile playing on his lips. "Yeah. I do. I've liked you for a while now. I just... I wasn't sure how to tell you."
Y/N felt a wave of emotions wash over her—surprise, joy, disbelief, and a touch of nervousness. She opened her mouth to respond, but the words wouldn't come. Instead, she found herself smiling, a warm, genuine smile that she couldn't hold back.
"I... I don't know what to say," Y/N finally admitted, her voice trembling slightly. "I mean, I... I like you too, Oikawa."
Oikawa's face lit up, and the nervousness seemed to melt away from his expression. "Really?"
Y/N nodded, feeling her cheeks heat up as she realized just how true her words were. "Yeah. I guess... I've liked you for a while too. I just didn't realize it until recently."
Oikawa let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding, and for a moment, they just sat there, grinning at each other like a couple of idiots. The tension that had filled the room before was gone, replaced by a sense of warmth and connection that neither of them could deny.
"Well, I'm glad we finally got that out in the open," Oikawa said, breaking the silence with a chuckle. "I was starting to think I'd never have the courage to tell you."
"Me too," Y/N admitted, laughing softly. "But I'm really glad you did."
