Osamu kept to his word, he always did. He had been waiting in the lobby of your jobs building for you, with food he'd made at work. "I could never get sick of your cooking," you smile upon seeing the Onigiri Miya takeout bag in his hand. "We should eat at the park across the street," you suggest as you walk side by side with the brunette.
"Fine by me," he nods as you both walk out the front doors.
Across the street was the cutest park that had a few tables scattered around—and occasionally you sat there with your coworkers. "How has work been?" Osamu asks as you lead the way to the café. "Super boring—I was in a meeting for ages about some event we're doing in like two months," you groan at the thought. "What's the event?"
"It's some networking thing for the company—just trying to get partners and stuff—which means nothing to me I just have to update our website and whatnot," you tell him and he nods along. "Oh!" you snap your fingers as you remember another thing.
Osamu furrows his brows at the sudden change in tone. "Is there more?" he questions. "Yeah, they stuck me with the job of finding catering for it. That' Koalani's job!" you exclaim—just slightly upset at the job you'd gotten assigned to.
"I thought you liked Koalani?" The brunette tilts his head confused. "Yes, I love her! I didn't say I was mad at her but I'm upset she's gone and I'm tasked with catering," you shudder at the thought of calling a million restaurants.
You'd also have to figure out how much food you'd need for the event and allergies and other dietary restrictions. Things that did not fall under your job title's list of duties.
"You know you could have me cater right?" You shake your head as soon as the suggestion leaves your best friend's mouth. "No no no! I want you to come with me as my plus one," you pause as you reach the corner of the block and press the bottom of the stop light pole. "As your plus one?" he swallows as he repeats your words.
You grin as the light turns green for the two of you to cross the street. "Yes, of course, I think it'd be a great networking opportunity for you,"
Oh...networking.
"Oh yeah you're right," he nods and you can sense the tension building up. "You don't have to go, I was just saying—but I don't want to pressure you," you try to ease what you thought was causing the tension. "No it's okay I want to go with you," Osamu tells you—placing a reassuring hand on your shoulder.
You let out a relieved sigh when he does so and smile when you see the park. "I know the perfect spot!" You perk up excitedly, picking up your pace to get to a certain table.
The further into the park you go the more vibrant it has gotten. There were tons of flowers blooming everywhere—considering it was spring now. The pinks and purples with the greenery around it were so beautiful you had to stop to snap a few pictures.
When you do so you hear Osamu sigh dramatically and smack his lips. "This food is getting awfully cold," he drags out jokingly. "Stop! I can't help it," you argue putting your phone back into your pocket.
"Look, this is the table," you point out to a table by a water fountain that was in the center of a walkway. "Wow this is nice," he agrees taking the scenery a bit more.
You were in the heart of the park now and there were flowers everywhere—only a few other people were around. An elderly lady feeding ducks, a schoolgirl, and a mom with her toddler going on a walk.
Osamu approached the table behind you and sat the bag of food down before taking the seat across from you. "So what did you bring me?" You ask with a big smile, batting your eyelashes joyfully.
Your best friend rolls his eyes with a small smile creeping into his face as he grabs a container from the bag and slides it over to you. You cautiously grab the container and open it to see, "A minced tuna and spring onion rice ball up," you muse at the sight of the food.
You're going to reach for the food but you stop when your eyes dart to the empty bag. "Wait— where's your food?" You glance over to the brunette confused.
He shrugs and leans back into the chair, "Wasn't feelin' hungry," You gawk at his words feeling betrayed, "Are you serious Samu? I can't be the only one eating!" You complain, reaching for your food now. "Here take a bite," you encourage waving the food in his face.
Osamu starts to chuckle before pushing your hand away and shaking his head. "No seriously I'm not hungry, go ahead and eat,"
You groan and set the food back into the container letting a frown settle onto your face. "What's the point of coming to lunch with me if you're not gonna eat?" you genuinely question—full of curiosity.
"I just wanna be in your company," he smiles leaning his arms to rest on the table. "Whatever," you roll your eyes trying to act mad. Which didn't last for very long before you burst into laughter at the grin on Osamu's face.
You were both laughing now and your laughter must've echoed through the park. The two of you were the loudest out of the few other people nearby.
Finally, you start to eat your food and Osamu is asking you a million questions about it. Asking if you like it, or if it was missing something, and even if it could use less of something else.
Shortly after you finish your food you feel someone approaching the two of you. Both of you turn to see the schoolgirl you'd seen earlier standing a few feet down the table. She had short wavy brown hair and long eyelashes, and she was wearing a school uniform, along with a camera around her neck.
"Excuse me," she starts speaking—her voice was soft and quiet. "Hi," you smile at her trying to get her to feel comfortable. "My name is Kimura Keiko, I go to Yumenodai High School and I have this photography class project to do I was just wondering if it's okay that I use this picture I took of the two of you," she explains before quickly pressing some buttons on her camera nervously.
You both glance at each other and back to the girl waiting for her to finish with her camera. Then she shows both of you the photo in question she took. It must've been only a few moments ago because it was a zoomed-in photo of the both of you laughing and smiling at each other.
Your mouth party slightly though because of how good the photo looked. You wouldn't consider yourself photogenic but the photo made you look almost like a model. Osamu always looked good so it was no surprise to you.
Once the both of you got a good look at the photo you looked over to Osamu and shrugged. "I'm okay with it," you nod waiting for Osamu to answer. "Yeah I mean if it's for school that's fine with me," he agrees.
The schoolgirl—Keiko bows to both of you and thanks you both excessively. When she turns away and takes her leave Osamu speaks up again, "I wonder what the project is," he ponders—crossing his arms over his chest.
Your eyes widen too and you gasp, "Why didn't you ask her!? Now we'll never know," you sigh with a shake of your head.
For a moment the both of you sit in silence as you take your phone out to take a few more photos. A couple of the fountain—then the sky, and of course the flowers. You're about to put your phone away when you catch a glimpse of Osamu staring off into space looking right at you.
He wasn't even blinking and you don't think he'd realized you were even staring back at him. The sight was funny to see and you giggle before quickly snapping a photo of him.
That's what got him out of his daze state and he shakes his head. "Hey c'mon," he smacks his lips and tilts his head. "Oh would you look at the time!" you announce as you look down at your wrist to check the time—even though you don't have a watch.
"My lunch break is over," you tell him. "Walk me back?"
