After the final preparations for the wedding ceremony and festivities were complete, I found myself finally being sent to rest in my temporary room within the Royal Palace of Valaskjalf.
As I stepped outside the venue, Captain Ragna was waiting for me, his stance ever vigilant.
"Thank you for your patience these last few days, Captain Ragna." I said, offering a grateful smile. "And for your unwavering protection."
Captain Ragna's expression remained as serious as ever as he replied, "It is my duty as your guard to wait and protect Thor's future wife. There's no need to thank me."
I couldn't help but chuckle softly at his stoic response.
"Would it hurt to lighten up every once in a while?" I teased, hoping to ease the tension that seemed to perpetually surround him.
But Captain Ragna said nothing in response as we walked together towards the waiting carriage. The silence between us was comfortable yet laden with unspoken thoughts and concerns.
As the carriage carried us back to the royal palace, my mind was consumed with thoughts of Odin's ultimatum.
How could Lord Thor and I possibly pretend to be in love when we haven't spoken a single word to each other?
The idea seemed ludicrous, yet the consequences of failure weighed heavily on me.
I clenched my fists in frustration, my mind racing with all the possible punishments that Fjellheim could face because of me. The thought churned my stomach with guilt and unease.
But then, a glimmer of an idea sparked within my mind.
With a determined resolve, I turned to Captain Ragna and asked, "Captain Ragna, can you take me to Thor's room?"
Captain Ragna looked at me with evident surprise, his usually stoic expression faltering for a brief moment. It was a sight that I found oddly amusing, considering I had never seen him make that face before.
"Why do you want to visit him at such a late hour?" Captain Ragna inquired, his brow furrowing in concern.
"It's important." I replied simply, my voice tinged with urgency.
After a few minutes of debate, Captain Ragna sighed in resignation.
"Very well." he conceded. "but I will knock first and ask his permission."
As the carriage finally arrived at the royal palace, together, we made our way to Thor's room.
As we approached Thor's room, I felt a surge of nerves coursing through my body. The weight of the impending conversation hung heavy in the air, adding to the already palpable tension surrounding the situation.
I couldn't help but clench my fists, my mind racing with countless thoughts and emotions. But then, amidst the storm of anxiety, a glimmer of determination flickered within me. I thought of the people of Fjellheim, their smiles etched in my memory. I couldn't bear the thought of seeing them sad.
I need to succeed, I need to forge at least a small connection with Thor. That would be enough.
With renewed resolve, I squared my shoulders and prepared myself for what lay ahead.
As we stood in front of Thor's room, Captain Ragna knocked three times. Each knock echoed in the quiet hallway, sending a surge of anxiety through me. My heart pounded faster with every passing second. Then, I heard the sound of approaching footsteps inside, and my pulse quickened in anticipation.
Then, the door opened, revealing Thor standing before us, his figure cloaked in his robe. Both Captain Ragna and I bowed our heads respectfully, a gesture of deference to the God of Thunder.
