The air was charged with tension as I clenched my fists, my chest tightening with a swirl of anger and disbelief.
Thor had just found the necklace beneath the sofa cushions, and now he stood before me—calm, composed, and infuriatingly unreadable. His gaze was intense but steady, his expression betraying little of the turmoil simmering beneath.
He folded his arms over his chest, his stance one of silent resilience. But his eyes—steely and unwavering—spoke volumes.
I broke the silence, my voice low. "Why... why didn't you tell me?"
Thor's jaw tightened. His gaze flickered away for the briefest moment before meeting mine again.
"Tell you what?" His voice was even, almost dismissive, but there was a thread of tension beneath the words. "What exactly would I have said, Y/n? That my father has... ideas on how to secure Asgard's future?"
"Ideas? You mean... like using my powers without my consent?" My voice wavered, anger and betrayal intertwining. "Manipulating me into thinking I'd need to sacrifice myself—for his ambitions?"
A flicker of something crossed Thor's face, but he didn't falter.
"Odin is King." he replied, his tone almost rehearsed. "His duty is to Asgard. This alliance—our marriage—wasn't just for appearances. It was also to maintain stability."
"Stability?" My voice rose, disbelief creeping into my words. "So you thought it was stable to lie to me? To make me think you actually cared about me... that you loved me—only to find out you did all of this just to keep me monitored?"
"Careful, Y/n," he warned, his voice a shade colder. "You're assuming much."
I scoffed, the hurt swelling. "Am I? Because from where I'm standing, my life, my powers—they're just pieces in some grand scheme. And you went along with it. For what? For Asgard?" My voice broke. "Or for him?"
Thor's eyes darkened. "I have duties—responsibilities that go beyond just you and me. Asgard must be protected at all costs."
"Even if it costs us?" My voice cracked, but I refused to back down. I forced him to look at me. "What about my wishes, my freedom? What if I don't want to sacrifice myself for Odin's power plays?"
Thor's jaw clenched, his composure finally slipping, revealing the weight he carried. "It's not that simple."
"Oh, isn't it?" I shot back. "You had a choice, Thor. You could've told me the truth, let me in, but you chose silence. Did you ever even consider how I'd feel if I found out?"
He said nothing, his silence heavier than stone.
I swallowed, my chest aching. "I thought... I thought what we had was real," I whispered. "But maybe I was just fooling myself, thinking I meant something to you."
For the first time, Thor broke his gaze, his fingers twitching at his sides.
"Believe what you will." he said quietly, his words a knife-edge between dismissal and reluctant admission.
My breath hitched, anger and pain swelling inside me. I yanked the necklace from his grasp, my fingers curling tightly around it as if it were the only thing I had left to hold onto. My gaze flickered to my staff resting nearby, and without hesitation, I snatched it up, the familiar weight grounding me for what came next.
Without another word, I turned and stormed out, leaving Thor standing alone, his expression unreadable—but his knuckles white with restraint.
As you fled, his eyes followed your retreat, and the door closed with a heavy, resounding thud. Only then did he exhale, his jaw still clenched as he processed the moment's bitter aftermath in silence.
