Clearing his throat, he stepped back into his leadership role. “As I was saying—we now have two of the crystals. That means there are two left. These crystals are key to ultimate power, to solidifying our control over the multiverse! And with Ms. Power on our side—”
“Are we really supposed to trust her?” Dr. Two-Brains cut in, arms crossed. His tone made it clear he wasn’t convinced.
“Argg! She be a loose cannon!” Captain Tangent added. “I don’t think she understands the meaning of teamwork.”
“Or loyalty,” Chuck muttered.
Ms. Power scoffed, flipping her hair back. “Oh, please. You’re all just mad because you know I’m stronger than every single one of you put together. The only reason Hacker keeps you around is that you’re easy to control.”
“WHAT?!” The Butcher growled, cracking his knuckles. Several villains exchanged uneasy glances, clearly ready for another fight.
“ENOUGH!” Hacker snapped, his patience gone. “Ms. Power is here to help. She’s strong, she’s capable, and if we want to win, we need her. So I suggest you all get used to it.”
The villains muttered among themselves but stayed quiet, clearly unhappy but unwilling to challenge him any further.
As the group settled down, Wicked leaned closer to Ledge. “I don’t know… something about her feels off. She says she’s here to help, but I can’t shake the feeling she’s got her own agenda,” she muttered, shooting a glance at Ms. Power, who was admiring herself in a reflective surface nearby.
Ledge chuckled and gave her a playful nudge. “Oh, come on, Wicked. You’re not… jealous, are you? I mean, it’s pretty obvious Hacker’s taken a liking to her.”
Wicked shot him a glare, crossing her arms. “Jealous? Please. I don’t care who Hacker’s impressed by. Besides, I broke up with him years ago.”
“Sure, sure,” Ledge smirked. “Then why are you so interested in Ms. Power’s ‘agenda’?”
Wicked huffed. “Because I know her type. She’s only out for herself—just watch, she’ll stab us in the back the second it benefits her. And if Hacker’s too blind to see it, someone has to keep an eye on her.”
Ledge shrugged. “Maybe. But she is powerful. She could be useful.”
Wicked didn’t look convinced but let the conversation drop, though she kept a close watch on Ms. Power as Hacker continued laying out his plan. No matter what, she wasn’t going to let her guard down.
As the meeting wrapped up, Ms. Power shot the group a smug grin before stepping through the portal, her eyes gleaming with confidence. Wicked’s unease only deepened.
Hacker watched his new recruit disappear, a sinister smirk growing on his face. Once the other villains had left, Buzz and Delete shuffled over, looking nervous.
“Uh… Boss?” Buzz scratched the back of his head. “Are you sure she’s, uh… trustworthy?”
“Yeah! She seems kinda… intense,” Delete added, his face scrunching up in concern.
Hacker waved a dismissive hand. “Oh, please! You two wouldn’t recognize strength if it smacked you in the face! Ms. Power is exactly what we need—fearless, strong, and ready to do whatever it takes to win. Once we have all four crystals, nothing else will matter!”
Buzz and Delete exchanged a nervous glance but stayed quiet. Arguing with Hacker never ended well.
Just then, Wicked reappeared in the doorway, her expression serious. She hesitated before stepping inside. “Hacker, we need to talk.”
Hacker sighed dramatically. “What now, Wicked? If this is another complaint about Ms. Power, save it! I’ve had enough whining for one day.”
Wicked frowned, but her voice stayed steady. "Something’s off about her. I don’t know what it is yet, but I know she’s not here to help us the way you think she is. I’ve been around enough schemers to recognize one.”
Hacker chuckled and waved her off. “You and your instincts, Wicked. You really need to stop being so jealous.”
Wicked’s eyes flashed. “This isn’t jealousy! It’s common sense!”
“Enough!” Hacker snapped, folding his arms. “I didn’t bring Ms. Power here to entertain your suspicions. She’s part of this team now, whether you like it or not. Focus on the mission and let me deal with her."
Wicked stared at him, frustrated but knowing there was no point in arguing. With a sigh, she turned and left, glancing back one last time before shutting the door behind her.
Buzz and Delete fidgeted awkwardly before Delete mumbled, “Uh, boss… maybe Wicked has a point…”
Hacker rolled his eyes. “Wicked always thinks she’s right. But trust me—once we have all four crystals, we’ll be unstoppable. Now, get back to work!”
As Hacker stomped off, Buzz and Delete exchanged another uneasy glance. Neither of them said it out loud, but they both had a bad feeling about this.
