The buzz of Maid Latte was a little louder than usual, the energy heightened by the theme of the day: Maid Ranger Day. Each maid donned a vibrant outfit in their designated color, striking poses and playing their roles with gusto.

Your color was grey. Neutral, understated—perfect for blending in, which was exactly how you preferred it.

As you tied the sash around your waist and adjusted the sleek ranger-style boots, your English teacher, Anri-sensei, peeked into the staff room. Her expression was warm but tinged with concern.

"Y/N, a word?" she asked, motioning for you to step aside.

You nodded, following her to the back corner.

"I've been hearing about some incidents lately," Anri said, her voice low. "Stalkers targeting girls working in cosplay cafes. I know you're careful, but... just watch out, alright? Don't let anyone follow you home."

You nodded again, offering a quiet, "I will."

She seemed unconvinced but let it drop, patting your shoulder before leaving.

The day passed with its usual mix of enthusiasm and chaos. Customers were thrilled with the theme, especially when the maids acted out dramatic rescue scenarios. You stayed in the background as much as possible, serving tables with quiet efficiency while the others soaked up the spotlight.

But one customer caught your attention.

He wasn't unusual at first glance—a man in his late twenties with nondescript features—but there was something about the way his eyes lingered on you. He sat at a corner table, nursing a single drink for hours, watching your every move.

You told yourself it was nothing. Just a coincidence. But the unease settled in your chest, heavy and insistent.

By the time your shift ended, the man had left. You chalked it up to paranoia and changed back into your regular clothes, slipping out the back door into the cool evening air.

The quiet of the alley was welcome at first, but the prickling sensation at the back of your neck returned. Glancing over your shoulder, you spotted him—the same man from earlier, trailing a little too close for comfort.

You quickened your pace, debating whether to cut through the park or stick to the main road.

"Y/N?"

The familiar voice stopped you in your tracks. Turning, you saw Isagi Yoichi standing a few paces away, his school bag slung over his shoulder.

"What are you doing here?" you asked, trying to keep your tone even.

"I was grabbing dinner nearby and saw you," he said, his gaze shifting past you to the man lurking in the shadows. His expression darkened. "That guy... is he following you?"

You hesitated. "I can handle it. It's probably nothing."

"It doesn't look like nothing."

"It's not a big deal, Isagi. I don't want to cause a scene."

He frowned, clearly unconvinced. "I'm walking you home."

You started to protest, but the firmness in his tone left no room for argument. With a reluctant nod, you fell into step beside him, the tension in your chest easing just slightly.

The walk home was mostly quiet, save for Isagi's occasional attempts at small talk. He kept a subtle but protective distance between you and the man, who eventually disappeared down another street.

When you reached your door, Isagi paused. "You sure you're okay?"

You gave a small nod. "Thanks for walking me."

He smiled, his usual easygoing demeanor returning. "Anytime."

As he turned to leave, you watched him go, a flicker of gratitude warming the edges of your unease. Maybe letting someone help wasn't so bad after all.
