In the quiet corridor, Captain Kim Taehyung sat upright on a stool, his posture impeccable, hands resting on his knees. His expression was calm, though his sharp eyes occasionally flicked toward the closed door in front of him. Two guards stood by it, their stern faces betraying no emotion. Behind that door, Jeon Taesoo—the presidential candidate and former prosecutor—was engaged in a meeting.
Taehyung had been here for twenty minutes, but he showed no signs of impatience. For the past three days, he had immersed himself in research on the Jeons. The father: a paragon of discipline and intellect, once the most feared prosecutor in the country, and now a politician with a meteoric rise. The son: a former top model whose reputation had crumbled under the weight of scandals, bar fights, and tabloid headlines. Jeon Jungkook was not just a handful—he was an avalanche of chaos.
The door finally creaked open, and one of the guards gestured to Taehyung. "Captain Kim, you may enter."
Taehyung inhaled deeply, rose to his feet, and adjusted his jacket. Walking into the office, he was greeted by the sight of Jeon Taesoo standing by a wall-length bookshelf, thumbing through a book. The older man turned when he heard Taehyung enter, his piercing gaze sharp but not unkind.
"Captain Kim," Taesoo greeted, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
Taehyung snapped into a crisp salute. "Mr. Jeon."
Taesoo chuckled, setting the book down. "Let's not stand on ceremony, Captain. I'm not the president yet." He waved his hand dismissively.
Taehyung lowered his hand and gave a polite bow instead. "Understood, sir."
Taesoo motioned to the chair in front of his desk. "Have a seat."
Taehyung obeyed, sitting down with the same precision he carried in every movement. Taesoo picked up a thick folder from his desk, flipping through its pages before speaking.
"I trust Chief Lee briefed you on the basics of your assignment," Taesoo began, his tone businesslike. "But I wanted to meet you personally to finalize a few details."
"Yes, sir. I've been informed about the general scope of my duties," Taehyung replied.
Taesoo leaned back in his chair, fixing Taehyung with a shrewd gaze. "Let me be blunt, Captain Kim. My son is a problem. He's reckless, stubborn, and completely uninterested in how his actions affect this campaign—or me. Your role isn't just to guard him physically but to ensure he doesn't make any more headlines. Can you handle that?"
Taehyung nodded firmly. "I can. But I do have one request, sir."
Taesoo raised an eyebrow. "Go on."
"I ask for full autonomy in how I handle him," Taehyung said, his voice steady. "If I'm to ensure his safety and cooperation, I'll need to do things my way. No interference, no micromanagement."
Taesoo's lips curled into a small, approving smile. "You're confident, I'll give you that. As long as my son stays in line and out of the tabloids, I don't care how you accomplish it."
"Understood, sir," Taehyung said with a nod.
Taesoo's gaze sharpened. "One more thing, Captain. I hope I don't need to remind you to keep things professional. Your job is to protect and manage my son, not... bond with him. I trust you know what I mean."
