Taehyung reclined in the plush chair of the guest room, his legs crossed, his phone pressed to his ear as he spoke with Wooshik. The casual conversation eased the usual tension in his shoulders as they caught up.
"How's it going in the military?" Taehyung asked, his voice smooth and calm. "I heard Seojoon finally got discharged. Fully recovered now?"
Wooshik chuckled on the other end. "He's doing fine—finally. Though he keeps complaining about being bored. You should drop by sometime, Taehyung. You're always good at keeping him entertained."
"Tell him to enjoy the peace while he can," Taehyung quipped with a small smile. "It won't last long once he starts working again."
There was a pause before Wooshik added, his tone shifting to something more teasing, "Speaking of entertainment... how's the high-profile babysitting gig going, Captain? Still keeping the young prince in check?"
Taehyung chuckled lightly, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the armrest. "It's a job, Wooshik. Like any other. Besides, it's not babysitting—he's more of a live wire than a kid."
A third voice chimed in. Seojoon, who had evidently joined the call, didn't waste the opportunity to stir the pot. "You're living with him, right? Be honest, Tae, isn't he exactly your type? All brooding, arrogant, and probably a handful in every possible way?"
Taehyung frowned, though a faint smile played on his lips. "I don't have a type, Seojoon."
"Sure, you don't," Seojoon replied sarcastically. "You're living in the same house as him. Don't tell me nothing's happened."
There was a playful edge to his tone. "I mean, the guy's got half the world throwing themselves at him—girls, boys, everyone. You're telling me Captain Kim Taehyung hasn't even been tempted?"
Taehyung's mind flickered to fleeting moments. A flash of Jungkook leaning too close, their eyes locking for a moment too long. The way Jungkook's lip would curl when annoyed—annoyingly attractive. The unspoken tension when they brushed past each other, and that damn smirk Jungkook had when he was testing Taehyung's limits.
A moment of silence hung between them before Taehyung replied, his tone steady but slightly amused.
"I'm nothing if not professional," Taehyung replied smoothly, masking his thoughts. "If there's one thing I do well, it's keeping my head clear and completing my mission. So no, you're not getting any gossip."
Seojoon sighed dramatically. "So boring. I was expecting at least one scandalous detail."
Taehyung was about to retort when he heard the distinct creak of Jungkook's door opening. His senses heightened instantly, and he cut the call short, offering a quick, "I'll call you later." He slipped his phone into his pocket and stepped out of his room, finding Jungkook heading toward the stairs.
"I don't recall anything being on your schedule for today," Taehyung said, leaning against the doorframe, his tone cool yet curious.
Jungkook glanced at him, visibly annoyed. "That's because it's not on your schedule. I have a meeting to attend."
Taehyung raised a brow, stepping forward with deliberate ease. "With whom?"
Jungkook scoffed, his hands tucked into the pockets of his hoodie. "Why? So you can report back to my father?"
