All That I See In You
---
It was supposed to be just a normal movie night. Popcorn. Fuzzy blankets. April’s soft laughter. The hum of an old projector as it cast romantic comedies on her apartment wall. That’s what you told yourself all day to look forward to—one night where you didn’t have to pretend you were okay.
April O’Neil was everything you weren’t. Bright. Fearless. Confident. A constant light in the storm that your mind had become lately.
And yet, she had chosen you. Somehow, she had looked at all your cracks and creases and decided she loved you. It made no sense to you, and the more she said it, the more it tore at the image you saw in the mirror—an image you hated.
The too-soft curves, or too-sharp lines depending on the day. The blemishes you saw in places no one else noticed. The way your clothes hung too loose now from skipping meals, but still you felt like too much. Too much space, too little value.
The sleeve of your hoodie hid the bandage around your arm—something you had done in a moment of spiraling two nights ago when your thoughts had become too loud to ignore.
Tonight, you swore to just focus on April. On her dorky RomCom choices and that perfect little laugh she did when something truly got her. You didn't want to ruin this. You didn’t want her to see what you’d done.
You arrived at her apartment just before 8 PM.
April threw open the door like always, practically jumping into a hug. "Y/N! My favorite human! You’re just in time. I picked Moonstruck. Classic, chaotic, slightly unhinged romance—aka us."
You smiled weakly. "Us, huh?"
"Yeah, dummy." She tugged you inside, her fingers lingering in yours longer than necessary. Her apartment was dim but warm, the smell of popcorn mixing with vanilla candles. The ambiance was always something she crushed.
She flopped onto the couch and patted the spot next to her. "Come here, movie goblin."
You gave her a playful eye roll and dropped beside her, letting her toss a blanket over the two of you. Your stomach let out a loud grumble as the previews played. You winced, pulling the blanket tighter over yourself.
April’s head whipped toward you. "Was that you?"
You quickly nodded. "Yeah, but it’s nothing. I’m good."
She tilted her head. "Y/N… when’s the last time you ate?"
You bit your lip. Your stomach tightened. "Earlier. Don’t worry about it."
"Earlier when?"
You paused too long.
April's expression softened, concern blooming in her amber eyes. “You’re not just skipping dinner, are you?”
You shrugged. “I’m just… not really hungry lately.”
“You always say that.”
Silence.
She sighed and stood up. “Okay, I’m making you a sandwich.”
“No—April, it’s fine—really,” you stammered, reaching for her hand.
She paused, eyes flicking to your arm as your sleeve slid up. And that’s when everything stopped.
“Y/N…” Her voice dropped, her gaze frozen on your forearm.
A faint pink line, still healing, peeked out from the sleeve.
You froze, instinctively yanking your arm back. “It’s nothing—don’t freak out—please don’t—”
