Beomgyu sat outside in the yard, he was wrapped in a blanket as he stared off into space. Ms. Ahn soon walked over and brought him a small snack."I made you a sandwich." She said. "With soup and some warm tea."
He didn't say anything as she sat it down next to him. "...he wrote you another letter." She took it out of her pocket. He looked at the small white envelope and shook his head. "I'll put it with the others."
She walked away and went up to his room. She walked over to his desk and opened the top drawer, placing it with the others. There were close to twenty of them if it wasn't over twenty by now. She left his room and closed the door.
Beomgyu looked at the food she made and picked up his sandwich and took a bite. He started to chew and then before he realized it, he started to cry again. He sat his food down and covered his face.
"Beomgyu."
He looked up and it was Sangchul, looking awkwardly at his son. "Ahem, may I sit?"
Beomgyu slowly nodded and Sangchul moved his food. They sat in silence before he spoke.
"I heard about the breakup." He said and was about to take out a cigar but quickly put it away. "I uhh...I'm sorry." Beomgyu didn't say anything. "What...happened?"
"He lied about everything!" He yelled at him. "He only came and talked to me because his parents wanted a contract with you. He used me and he got what he wanted!"
Sangchul hummed. "It's not my place to say anything to you but...I really liked that guy y'know? I thought he was good for you—"
"Dad I love you but you need to go away." He hid his face in his knees.
Sangchul sighed. "Look I'm not good at these things and you know that but your mother said she felt like you didn't hear her. So I just wanted to say that...Yeonjun sent me an email."
"What?"
"He emailed me saying to make sure the contract with his parents was very well written. He didn't specify anything other than to make sure I put thought into how much power I gave his parents in the company we built. He has a good heart and despite what he did to you...he knows the type of people his parents are. He made sure we were okay. It's no excuse but I genuinely believe he wouldn't have done it if he didn't have to. Please hear him out and if you do and still want nothing to do with him, then Yeonjun will be dead to us. Promise."
Beomgyu felt his father, hug him. It was weird because he and his father weren't physically close. He slowly hugged him back and then started to cry again. Sangchul held him tighter and rubbed his back to soothe him. Beomgyu like normal, fell asleep. He had been doing a lot of sleeping and crying during their break up. Sangchul didn't move and let him rest. Beoha eventually came outside and saw them, she smiled and walked over kissing her husband's cheek before sitting down next to him.
"You're a good dad."
"I don't know if I helped."
"I think you did." She looked at Beomgyu. "He seems less sad right now. Even when sleeping he still looked heartbroken but something you said eased him a little."
"...so I'm finally better at something that you."
She laughed. "Not even close."
...
Beomgyu was starting to feel a little more like himself. It had almost been a full month since the party where the truth came out. He was painting in his room, a white sheet underneath him as he did light and gentle strokes of black paint on his canvas.
