When they returned to Viktor's dorm, the sun had dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in a beautiful palette of soft pinks, oranges, and purples. The air was cooler now, the warmth of the day giving way to the crispness of evening, and it felt like the perfect end to an already perfect day.
Jayce, being Jayce, wasted no time in making himself at home. He flopped down onto Viktor's bed like he owned the place, bouncing a little for effect before settling in, as if there were no other place he'd rather be. "Your bed's way comfier than mine," he announced, stretching out as though it were the most natural thing in the world. He grinned at Viktor, clearly pleased with his new spot.
Viktor rolled his eyes, but there was an unmistakable fondness in the way he looked at Jayce. "That's because I don't treat it like a trampoline," he replied dryly, closing the door behind him with a soft click. He was almost surprised by how comfortable Jayce had become in his space, his personal space. But he didn't mind it, not one bit. :)
Jayce patted the space next to him on the bed, his grin widening. "Come on, genius. Let's relax." His voice was easy, casual, as if there was no rush, no reason to be anywhere other than here.
Viktor paused at the invitation, the tension from the day still clinging to him. But Jayce's presence was soothing, and after a beat, Viktor sat down beside him, leaning back against the soft pillows. The room was quiet, save for the low hum of Viktor's computer in the corner, the only light coming from the fading sunset outside the window. The atmosphere felt peaceful, intimate in a way that Viktor hadn't expected, and it wasn't entirely uncomfortable.
Jayce, always the touchy one, shifted closer. His arm draped over Viktor's shoulders, pulling him into a casual embrace. Viktor stiffened instinctively, his body reacting before his mind could catch up. But when Jayce didn't move away, Viktor found himself slowly relaxing into the embrace. It wasn't so bad, being close. Not at all.
They sat there in silence, just enjoying the closeness for a while. The only sounds were the occasional shift of the bed and the hum of the computer, but they didn't need words to fill the space. It was enough to simply be there together, their shoulders lightly touching, the gentle pressure of Jayce's arm around him.
"You're warm," Viktor murmured softly, almost to himself, his voice barely above a whisper. He hadn't meant to say it out loud, but it had been a quiet observation, something he couldn't ignore as Jayce's warmth seeped into him, easing away the cold tension he hadn't realized he was holding.
Jayce grinned, not missing a beat. "That's because I run on pure energy." He chuckled softly at his own joke, making Viktor roll his eyes in amusement.
"More like pure arrogance," Viktor teased back, though his words held no bite. It was playful, easy banter, the kind of exchange that had become familiar between them.
Jayce chuckled again, this time pulling Viktor a little closer, his grip tightening ever so slightly. "Admit it," he said with a mischievous glint in his eye. "You like having me around." His voice was teasing, but there was an undertone of something softer, something Viktor could sense but not quite place.
Viktor didn't respond right away, unsure of how to put his feelings into words. Instead, he rested his head against Jayce's shoulder, the motion slow, deliberate. For a moment, he let himself savor the calmness of the moment. "Perhaps," he said quietly, his voice soft enough that Jayce might not hear if he wasn't paying attention.
Jayce didn't press him, happy with the answer, and for a while, they just sat there, side by side, wrapped in the quiet comfort of each other's presence. There were no more words needed. The simple fact that they were together felt like enough.
