Before she could continue, Bai Yuxi interrupted her.
“This information is very useful.”
Bai Yuxi hadn’t acknowledged Su Min for a while, but upon hearing this, Su Min’s eyes lit up.
“As long as you can use it, that’s great.”
However, she then heard Bai Yuxi clearly say:
“I know collecting this data must have taken you a lot of time. I will compensate you based on your current performance, Captain.”
Hearing Bai Yuxi’s words, Su Min fell silent for a while, feeling bitterness in her throat. She swallowed hard, struggling to find her voice, and finally managed to say,
“Yuxi, let’s not be so formal with each other. Don’t draw such clear lines between us.”
But Bai Yuxi was already focused, pulling out her terminal, unaffected by Su Min’s words.
“Why?”
Su Min suddenly felt a sharp pang from that question.
—Why?
Bai Yuxi’s ‘why’ made it abundantly clear: there was no reason for them to not maintain boundaries.
They had no reason to be anything but formal anymore.
Su Min’s expression shifted, resembling one on the verge of tears.
She suddenly recalled when she and Bai Yuxi had first met.
Back then, Bai Yuxi was meticulous about everything, unwilling to accept anything without clear terms, especially regarding money.
Su Min spent five years tirelessly getting close to her, occasionally running into her to make her accustomed to her presence, until she slowly became part of Bai Yuxi’s life.
She always thought that she occupied a space in Bai Yuxi’s heart, but she never expected that some things could simply vanish.
Now Bai Yuxi’s insistence on clear boundaries made her feel as though everything had slipped away.
“Yuxi.”
Su Min fell silent for a moment and finally took a deep breath. “I applied to the team, and I’ve recently set aside my tasks. I can now come to school to see you from time to time.”
Hearing her words, Bai Yuxi furrowed her brow and looked up. “School?”
After five years of being together, she knew that Su Min’s true aspirations lay not in school but on the battlefield. Su Min’s training had always been with the military, especially during this first year filled with numerous assignments.
