Ren Qingqiu faced the woman before her, who wore glasses and held a cigarette. Suddenly, her previously foggy mind cleared.

Kong Youxi seemed more capable than before; the contours of her face now had sharper edges. This was only natural, as she had unknowingly walked alone for a decade, accumulating experiences that were distinct from Ren Qingqiu’s, which helped to hone her.

Ren Qingqiu glanced at the baton on her waist. After a long silence, she ignored Kong Youxi’s statement and smiled politely, saying, “Is there something you need, Colonel Kong?”

“You’re quite polite,” Kong Youxi remarked, casting a cold glance at Ren Qingqiu. She scoffed lightly, “So polite? Aren’t you going to let me in to talk?”

Inside the room, Kong Youxi sat casually in a chair, toying with her cigarette.

Ren Qingqiu leaned against the long table, her gaze shifting slowly toward Kong Youxi. “Colonel Kong, you don’t look well. You should see a doctor. What brings you to seek out a useless student like me?”

“Did you get the wrong person?” Ren Qingqiu smiled.

“You? Useless?” Kong Youxi laughed, the cigarette dancing between her fingers. “Are you trying to play some sort of role-playing game with me?”

Ren Qingqiu paused. “I don’t quite understand what you’re talking about.”

“You really can’t change your nature. You can’t pretend to be someone else. Your shooting skills, the tone of your voice, the scent of your pheromones, the way you think, your fighting techniques, your habits.”

Kong Youxi’s lips curled slightly, but her eyes remained exceptionally cold. She brushed her fingers over the lighter in her pocket, her tone dripping with disdain.

“I’ll tell you, don’t play your tricks with me. Even if you turned to ashes, I would still recognize you.”

Ren Qingqiu watched as Kong Youxi suddenly reached for her, and she quickly ducked back. Yet, in this one-on-one confrontation, she knew she was no match for Kong Youxi.

Kong Youxi seized her collar.

Ren Qingqiu heard Kong Youxi’s voice, seemingly suppressing her anger, trembling slightly as she whispered her old name into her ear:

“—Li Bei.”

Her voice was low, barely audible to Bai Yuxi.

But the moment Kong Youxi released Ren Qingqiu’s collar, the room fell silent.

Ren Qingqiu swallowed hard.

Kong Youxi’s gaze remained fixed on her, and she stayed silent.

It was as if they understood one another, and Ren Qingqiu realized she could no longer maintain her facade.
