Suddenly, everything around her dissolved into darkness.

“Where am I?”

She had no idea where she was, but she pressed on, navigating a pitch-black road devoid of any lights to guide her.

As she walked, a sound pierced the silence.

Turning her head, the surroundings abruptly morphed into the war-torn streets of Morrell.

The acrid scent of gunpowder mingled with anguished screams, and a trembling hand suddenly grasped her collar.

Her gaze followed that hand, locking onto the eyes of Kong Youxi.

At the sight of Kong Youxi’s expression, a chill coursed through her limbs, and her breath quickened.

“Kong Youxi?”

Kong Youxi slowly lifted her head and delivered a sharp slap across her face.

She opened her mouth to speak, but then noticed tears streaming down Kong Youxi’s cheeks.

“Why?”

“You always boast about your power. Why did you go to save someone from the enemy nation?”

She hung her head, unable to muster a response.

“Even if it was a child, what does that have to do with you?!”

Kong Youxi’s face was streaked with tears, her features a tempest of anger and sorrow, completely lacking her usual composure.

She felt utterly powerless to argue back.

If she hadn’t saved the child, that kid wouldn’t have awakened at that moment, firing wildly and hitting Kong Zhen with a stray bullet, leading to his death.

She couldn’t utter a word.

She yearned to help Kong Youxi dry her tears, but Kong Youxi forcefully shoved her hand away.

“I only have my brother left. What do you want me to do now? Bring my brother back!”

A wave of anxiety swept over her, and she understood the pain of losing a loved one. In that moment, guilt gnawed at her; she couldn’t bear it and wished to close her eyes. But Kong Youxi grabbed her collar and cried out like a child.

Her voice trembled. “Li Bei, what am I supposed to do?”

Her heart ached intensely. Kong Youxi’s tears mingled with the rain, falling to the ground. Her eyelashes fluttered as the rain intensified around them. Kong Youxi cried for what felt like an eternity, and with every sob, the rain fell harder, as if trying to drown this place.

Soon, the ground became submerged in rainwater and suddenly sank. At that moment, several uniformed individuals approached.

They brandished an arrest warrant. “Li Bei, you are being detained for the suspected murder of Major General Tao. Please come with us.”

She turned to flee, but this time, the person before her was no longer Kong Youxi. It was her teacher, Bai Qingxiao.

“Teacher…”

She swallowed hard, gazing at Bai Qingxiao.

—Teacher will definitely help me.

She thought, feeling a flicker of relief.

But Bai Qingxiao slowly advanced, handcuffing her wrists.

“Don’t move.”

Bai Qingxiao gritted her teeth.
