Sure enough, Bai Yuxi sighed and crossed her arms.

"Logically, I should have acquired this without wasting any time, but because of you, I wasted half an hour."

Bai Mubei couldn’t help but feel a bit unnerved that her mother found it in just half an hour.

But she knew arguing would lead nowhere, so she remained silent.

Bai Mubei chose to play dead.

Bai Yuxi looked at her, shaking her head in disappointment.

She was remarkably similar to that alpha; not a single good trait was inherited, only the bad ones.

"I also want to ask you, Bai Mubei, why does the signature on this report card look nothing like mine? Can you explain the reason, the process, and the result?"

Bai Mubei's shoulders slumped, and her head drooped even lower.

"Also, I heard from your homeroom teacher that you're hanging out with troublemakers every day, playing around after school without doing anything serious."

Today felt less like her birthday and more like a day of judgment.

Bai Mubei felt embarrassed and wronged, wondering why she had been so foolish not to anticipate that when her mom returned, her own life would become difficult.

Bai Yuxi continued her criticism.

"At this rate, after graduating from the affiliated school, I doubt any of the four military academies would want you."

The threshold for those academies wouldn’t lower just because she was a major.

Bai Mubei pouted, "I don't want to be a soldier anyway."

Bai Yuxi shot her a glance. "Weren't you always saying you wanted to be a soldier when you were little?"

"Well, that was..." Bai Mubei glanced at the insignia on Bai Yuxi's shoulder, feeling a bit frustrated.

Bai Yuxi wondered who had spoiled her this way.

Irritated by her daughter’s hesitance, Bai Yuxi asked, "Then what do you want? Don’t be vague; I taught you to be clear and not to mumble."

"A child's dream can't be taken seriously. I don’t even remember it anymore. Why are you taking it so seriously?" Bai Mubei muttered quietly.

Bai Yuxi crossed her arms and leaned back against the sofa.

"Fine, then tell me, if you don't want to go to a military academy, what do you want to do? What’s your plan, and how do you intend to achieve it?"

Bai Mubei was momentarily silenced by her mother’s question.

What did she want? She didn’t want to force herself; she just wanted to bask in the sun, lying around like a lazy fish, enjoying each day.

But could she say that? She didn’t dare.

"You just want to loaf around, don’t you?" Bai Yuxi said with a knowing smile.

Bai Mubei understood that her mother's smile was not one of amusement but sarcasm.

Yet deep down, she felt no denial.

Yes, she truly wanted to do nothing and just get by.

To be honest, if her family could afford to let her do nothing, why shouldn't she?

"I’ll tell you this: that option is impossible. Our family doesn’t feed idle people." Bai Yuxi picked up her coat. "First, prove to me that you can get into a military academy, and then I’ll consider whether to grant you this privilege."
